Good win for the Cubs today, not losing a series to San Diego. I still think the Cubs are vanquished for this season, but Darvish was obviously fantastic and the Cubs managed to score a few runs without needing the long ball to do it.

JD Martinez is a reason why they need the batter box rule.

He takes like 10 seconds between pitches to get back in the box.

He took a pitch, stepped out, stared at the box, 10 seconds later he walks back in the box and slowly gets ready for the pitch. Is that needed?

Yes, I'm in minority who thinks pitch clock should happen, but I also think that batters box rule needs to be in place too.

LOL...McCann with one of the worst tag attempts at home I’ve ever seen.

Dansby has had the worst luck...when he hits it on the nose it’s right at someone.

The ball seems to be flying around Wrigley today. 5-4 in the first, Cubs have 3 HR.

It seems like Rizzo at leadoff might be a thing for a while. It took Maddon till September 13th to go it. unbelievable.

Nico is gonna be good folks.

late but Cubs have absolutely lost series that they should've won but this is one they will probably live to regret most. Padres sans Tatis/Reyes you should probably sweep. down 2 with the Cardinals playing the Brewers/Nats you had a legit shot at the division without sweeping H2H. Cubs still probably aren't done. if Brewers Win 2 out of 3 and then Cards face Scherzer/Corbin/Strasburg. That's where if you simply look at the numbers it seems unlikely but schedule wise they still have a shot but this is the big if with them they gotta take care of bushiness.

+ side Look at Darvish 2nd half numbers this is the ace they paid for and then some. I'd feel pretty good in a one game situation against just about anyone it would really depend if the offense showed up that day.

This is still uncomfortably close given the conditions at Wrigley today. Hope we don't end up regretting that Schwarber K with the bases loaded.

Hey, Nico. Wanna be a hero?

edit: 2 RBI single! Another 4 RBI game - and this one's still a LONG way from over.

We got us a good ol' fashioned Wild West shootout.

Bears currently leading the Steelers 17-7.

Nationals Park definitely has a playoff-like atmosphere brewing right now. This is awesome.

Good news, bad news for the Cubs.

Good news--Nico Hoerner hits homer #1 and gets to do it at Wrigley. The offense explodes with Rizzo leading off and the Pirates in town.

Bad News--Jon Lester looks about finished. He's had a terrible second half and doesn't inspire any confidence at all as a go to guy in a short series.

Freddie Freeman removed for precautionary reasons with right-elbow soreness.
