Am I the only one who doesn't understand the Mets sudden spend spend spend attitude. They traded away some their young talent and are now resorting back to what got them into the mess of 2002. This seems like deja vu. I mean that year everyone was like ooooh Mo Vaughn, ooohh Alomar. Pitching wins championships and the Mets don't have the pitching(bullpen that is) Their starters are nice but nice only takes you so far. They were doing a good job of rebuilding IMO but lately they are overpaying for players. Beltran is not a $100 mill guy. I mean is he a good player, yes, but did they over pay to get him yes they did. Read what Tim Kurkjan had to say

Did anyone ever predict Alomar would have such a horrible season, especially defensively? No.

Did anyone predict Mo would get hurt and be useless? No.

Fact of the matter is, the Mets Organization is actually showing a commitment to winning and this ballclub. Overpaid Beltran? Absolutely. Can you honestly say they were in any position to do otherwise?

Also, their bullpen is lacking, but since when has a championship team ever been assembled in December/January? All the excitement is about the possibilities of this team. Whether or not you like the moves, you can't argue they've just put themselves in a position as a force to be reckoned with in the NL.

Why is everyone so hard on Piazza?

He's still better than most catchers in baseball.

When you're talking about hitting, yes. Defensively, not so much.

Sadly, I agree with this.

Personally though, I hate the DH rule. Let a pitcher hit. That's the way it should be.

Agreed, having the pitcher in the hitting line-up definately adds another level of strategy to the game!

One good thing about the dh is that it lets a good hitting player add a few more years to their career who really can't make it in the field anymore. Like a Piazza!

I still don't know why we gave up on the 1st base experiment so quickly. Let him try it out all Spring and if he still doesn't get it, throw him back behind the plate.

Simple, his agent said Mike enjoyed being behind the plate a lot more than 1st. If he would have learned to play 1st base atleast decently it would have helped us so much. We could get a defensive catcher and it could extend his career.
