Principle of it all. He doesn't deserve it, yet. Could be worth way more or way less. I find these deals strange. I hope it works out for everyone.

I should rephrase, I don't hate these deals but they are confusing. A team throwing money at a kid, and I would personally accept it if I was in his shoes...but I think money, and a lot of it will be left on the table.

He will be a free agent at 29 and could cash in, but man someone with 0 service time making up to 88 million dollars is absurd to think about.

I'm like anti everything on this from a business standpoint. If the player flames out he makes some money, and the team says oh well. If he does well or even exceeds then the team gets one of the best team friendly contracts ever. Just odd.

This is a contract, but why is a signing bonus different? They gave him 26 mil as an eighteen year old when he defected. Did he deserve that more than the contract he's getting now after having shown the team what he can do for a couple years?



He's getting paid during his minimum years, the team has security if he's great, we don't have to worry about service time manipulation, and the deal is at such a low yearly number they won't be hamstrung if he flames out. Saw someone mention the Albies deal and thought there was a typo in the articles when I went to look it up (7/35, up to 9/45). What's crazy is that he's getting this in comparison to that deal.

Well, they have to do signing bonuses with them to bring them to the team...don't they? This extensions is unnecessary, but it's all good. The team and player can do whatever they want, I'm just bringing up it is confusing for both parties.

Yes.

He is actually suspended for 81 games, but it is retroactive to September 19th of last year when he was placed on administrative leave.
