Nomar goes to bat for Sammy

The official website of the Chicago Cubs with the most up-to-date information on news, tickets, schedule, stadium, roster, rumors, scores, and stats.

"The short time I played with Sammy, I enjoyed playing with him," Garciaparra said. "He was great for me, and so respectful of me. I think he's a great player and I haven't lost sight of what he's done in the past. I understand what he's done for the city and what he's done for the organization in the past.

"In baseball, you have up and down seasons and I'm sure he didn't have the season he probably would've liked," Garciaparra said. "People might have been on him and hard on him, but as a player you're probably harder on yourself. Does it make him a bad person? Does it change everything he's done in the past? Absolutely not. I think he's a great person. I think he's unbelievable."

"If he's back, I'll be there with open arms, and 'C'mon, Sammy, let's go,'" Garciaparra said. "He's a tremendous talent. If he's not with us, because he's such a great person, I'll pat him on the back and wish him well."

What a pathatic puff piece. I will never forget what that jerk Corky did the whole last year. It takes away most of what he accomplished before that. It figures Nomar would back him since rumor is he is a jerk too. If he is the captain I will be sick. It should say C for CORK! The fact is he will be a cub this year. He better accept he is no longer the number one guy on this team. What am I saying. That selfish piece of crap will never accept that.

I believed Sammy when he said he grabbed thr wrong bat, and that he only corked for BP to give the fans a show.

I agree. That sounds like something Sammy would do.

Do you really think Sosa will be here the whole year? Hes a little thin-skinned and the fans are going to be off the charts brutal. If he doesnt get off to a good start it could get even more ugly. If that happens do you think Sosa might ask for a trade and be willing to make concessions?

Hypocrite. He only brought fame back to the Cubs in the 90's and a big boost in ratings w/ the McGwire/Sosa showdown in the late 90's. He didn't just make the Cubs a team to watch again, he helped make Baseball a SPORT to watch again. Who's more selfish? The fan who considers a less than 5% chance that Sosa was lying about his corked bat and one off year reason enough to hate on Sosa? or the guy where there's a 95% chance he told the truth about the corked bat and just had an off year? No offense, but it's responses like yours to stuff like this that gives Baseball a bad name. It's as if you heard all the news channels saying "SOSA WILL BE SCARRED FOR LIFE" and just adopted the idea. You don't even have a real reason for being upset. Selfish? give me a break.

I dunno, Sammy may have told the truth about the corked bat but I somehow don't believe him. I do think that the fans in chicago are being a tad unfair. I'd give Sammy a chance early on in the season but if he's not performing then maybe the Cubs should look at a way to move Sammy.

You make me laugh. I have followed and watched the Cubs for years on end and have an opinion because I lived every moment. You're opinion is an outsiders opinion that believes the garbage ESPN gives you. He and neddle boy Mark brought the game back because the commish let them cheat and use steriods

This guy is a selfish loser. Do you live in the area and know the stories about him. No. What the hell has this team won under him . Thats right NOTHING. LESS THAN 5%. I got a plot of land to sell you in the mountains of Afganastan for 10 million dollars if you believe this cheater. HE FRICKIN TOOK OFF ON HIS TEAM DURING THE LAST GAME OF THE DAMN SEASON!!! DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE HELL THAT MEANS. HE SAID HE IS A 3 HITTER FOR LIFE BECAUSE HE HAS 550 HOMERS. HE REFUSED TO MOVE DOWN IN THE ORDER EVEN THOUGH HE HIT 200 FOR MOST OF THE YEAR. He is a cancer in the clubhouse who cares about nothing except hitting 700 homers. He has said this at least 10 times.

I give baseball a bad name but a guy who has grown like the incredable hulk and has been caught corking his bat doesnt.

EDIT: I apoligize for calling you names. I disagree with you and we'll leave it at that!
