    Favourite no name players?

Since we've been talking about best uniforms how bout your fave no name players. You know the guys who don't get the headlines or don't have much talent but you liked them cuz they were gritty or there was just something about them that you can relate to.

This could be all time or players today:

Craig Grebeck: He was so small for a baseball player yet he stuck around for a good long time. He was the epitome of the little guy that could. I always enjoyed watching him play.

Rance Muliniks: He was a pretty thin guy for a baseball player and wore glasses! He wasn't the greatest player in the world but I always related to him because of his physical attribute. It's nice that he eventually won a World Series with the Jays. Believe it or not he was the regular DH for a good while as well.

Tony Pena: a very good defensive catcher back in the day. He was also very good at calling a ballgame. In fact a catcher of recent vintage was compared favourably to Pena (Alberto Castillo)

I like how you spelled 'favourite' with a 'U'...it adds a little colour.

Interesting thread. Here are my lesser knowns who did the dirty work:

    Bobby Dernier (in 1984 anyway)
    Jerome Walton (1989)
    Wally Backman
Frank White-- might be the most underrated 2nd baseman in the history of baseball.
    Gary Matthews
    Jody Davis
    Randall Simon

Mike Greenwell: most people outside of Boston have probably don't remember him, he was the Red Sox LF from 1987-1996, constant player always hit in the high .270's-.300's, averaged around 15 HR and 70 RBI a year, finished his career with .303 BA. I'm glad he did not make the Braves out of spring training in 1997, so i can think back at him ONLY being a Red Sox.

I liked Grebeck as well, he could play a lot of positions and got a lot of playing time, and he was not an automatic out either.

I also like Lenny Harris, the guy has been around forever, played for half the team's in the N.L. , but he's clutch, one of the best pinch-hitters in baseball history. He played a big part for the Marlins in the 2003 NLCS against the Cubs (ironically, the team that let him go in august of that year).

Inspired the term, "Mike Greenwell Power" for guys who frequently hit fly balls to the warning track.
