    Question for Chicago residents.......

I know the Cubs traditionally play most of their games in the afternoon (I think they have about 19 night home games this year) but why do they do this?

It's done because of the location of Wrigley Field it sits right in the middle of a residential neighborhood. They have to get approval from aldermans, block associations, etc. So every renovation or expansion done to or around the ballpark has to get approved by the residents and city first, and believe me the rich northside residents are powerful.

Because for a long time Wrigley Field didn't have lights, so they had to play games in the Afternoon. They had just continued to do so as the years have gone on.

Traffic must be a nightmare if you live near Wrigley.

I wonder if the Cubs would ever build a stadium in the heart of downtown where they can play most of their games at night.

                parking is the real nightmare.

it sucks too if there's a show at the Metro and there's a Cub game the same day.

I've only been to one game at Wrigley, and we parked in some guys garage in one the neighborhoods by the park.

Parking is terrable there but it is the awesome that the park is right in the middle of everything. My fiance lived about a 10 minute walk from Wrigley for 2 years and I found if you parked in that area you were fine. Any closer and you were in trouble espically the closer to gametime it got. They want more night games, the residents just wont allow it. The Cubs offer a million or so dolaars a year for security and garbage pickup in the area to help. When they clinched in 03 it was awesome. I was walking around and getting offered beer from people I didnt even know inviting me to party in their yard. It was one of the coolest night I ever had. Great neighborhood if you are in your 20's and like to have fun.

I live two miles away from Wrigley (lincoln park). I would guess most people get there via walking or the redline.
