    Re: Kyle Farnsworth to Detroit

The Cubs havent done much but they have done a good job getting rid of malcontents and losers. Farns fits the bill. He skipped out on the team the 2nd to last game of the year. Kicks a fan after getting rocked in late Augaust and puts himself out for three weeks when hes needed most. And who can forget the year before where he is found sleeping in the clubhouse during a game because he is hungover. What a professional.

He had 6 thats right 6 years to prove himself and did nothing except for 2003 when he had a good year and then the playoffs...well Mike Mordeci anyone. Pathatic. I dont care if he has 100 saves this year. Good riddence loser. Usually the Cubs would hold on to a bum like this and hope and pray he might be good. They can find better. They have better young arms like Wellemeyer to take his place. Its a good risk for Detorit since Navaro is the only one who might be good, but they will learn his fastball is as straight as an arrow and he is as stupid as they come. Probably the dumbest Cub ever and thats saying something. Just my 2c

Tigers really looking to make a run at that division.

I think Dempster will be another Dustin Hermanson flop. Converting SP to Closers isn't the easiest thing in the world. Except for Mr. Smoltz.

I'm happy to see Farnsworth go. He has an amazing arm, but he is a major head case. I was uneasy seeing him come into the game with the lead. I'm not sure we could have gotten anything better for him. I think the whole league knows he's a head case, no ones going to want to give up top prospects. Good move by the cubs in my opinion. It opens up a spot in the pen for some of our younger pitchers. Joe Browoski is coming back this year and I think he'll be able to take Farnsworth's place.

i agree, farnsworth has amazing potential, but he cant get his head out of his ***. Hopefully Borowskis back w/his velocity that he was lacking last year. No need to put LaTroy in the closer role, thats not his M.O. He's an 8th inning guy, and a damn good one. Dempster will end up as a better contributor than farnsworth and i cant think offhand of who they used last year....oh yeah jon leicaster (pronounced lester or something like that). He was a solid contributor. I believe the cubs are probably done until July and hopefully we can snag some talent from the pirates like we always do

Man, I'm going to miss him. He was always a sure bet to explode when the pressure was on. I can't remember how long ago the poll was in SI, but it asked major leaguers several questions, one of them being something to the effect of biggest waste of talent (not the exact words), and I'm sure Farnsworth was either number 1 or 2. Good move by the Cubs because they're not really losing anything even if their bullpen has/had question marks.

And Mr_October, you forgot about Eric Gagne. I'd say it has worked pretty well for him.

Rivera, Ishringhausen, Gagne, Smoltz, Nathan, Mesa, Dotel, Chacon, Baez, Hawkins, Urbina, Guardado, etc.

The following, (I'm sure I missed others), came into this league as atleast spot starters, before converting to closers.
