No way they pulled it off. Finally an off day coming up, their second of the year.

He's in shambles, it was an illegitimate outcome like he wanted but it almost lasted 5 hours.

Manfred's ideal MLB: 7 inning games, juiced ball, and teams scoring in extras without recording a hit?

It's been all over Twitter, but tonight Ohtani became the first pitcher to start a game on the mound while leading (in his case tied) the league in home runs since Babe Ruth in 1921.

I was watching a show today and one thing mentioned (their opinion) was what if MLB did go to 7 innings one day, would it do more good or bad for MLB?

Starters could start being more valuable again since they could pitch most if not all innings in the game, guys do get in probably 1 fewer at bat a game, games dont go as long.

But obviously, changing baseball so drastically, would that drive away fans more than bring in new ones (or further hook casual fans)?

I love games that go by quicker (I'd rather a high scoring 4 hour game over a low scoring 2.5 hour game, although I'd rather a 2.5 hour 4-2 game over a 3.5 hour 4-2 game). Although imo, pitch clock is the thing which needs to be implemented first. So much of baseball history has had games going about the length of NBA/NHL games today go. So clearly it's possible to have shorter games while having 9 innings.

Wow, Contreras gave that ball a ride. Not quite the 490 feet that Cubs radio was calling at first, but 456 is still a poke.

I’m obviously biased, but I can’t believe Bumgarner got the player of the week for throwing a 7 inning no hitter over deGrom

There would be no need for a 26 man roster for 7 inning games, but there is no way the MLBPA would go for reducing rosters so we’d probably end up with over managed games which would cut in to the potential time reduction. If your starter gets in a jame in the 3rd...bring in a reliever. Plus owners would lose a ton of money on concessions. I’m be pissed if the stop selling beer in the 5th inning instead of the 7th

They'd probably lower the qualifications for a "quality start" to 4 innings, and 80 pitches would be the new 100, etc etc. They'd probably nix all pace of play rules, and 7 innings would take 3+ hours lol.

It's the Yankees, so people will probably have certain opinions already, but what were peoples thoughts on their failed replay?

For context, Judge was called out at 3B before DJ scored according to the umps. However, it appears as though that wasn't actually the case, and review likely overturned umps call. The issue, the Yankees took too long to signal for a review so time expired by time they wanted to challenge the play.

Boone then went crazy and going all out at the umps over it.

IMO, tough luck. There's a time limit for a reason. That's like someone getting mad at a store for not letting them return an item when the store policy is 30 days and that person comes back 5 weeks later.

This is a very specific stat, but it's cool.

Buster Posey had 4 hits tonight, and caught a 3-hit shutout.

It's the 8th time in his career that he caught a shutout while getting more hits himself than the opposing team combined. It's the most by any catcher in the modern era.

If they’re going to use replay it should be to fix the blatant missed calls. If you need to contemplate whether to challenge a call and run out of time I have no sympathy
