      Just saw this unbelievable stat.

Carlos Rodon tonight was the first pitcher to start a game with 5 straight strikeouts against the Yankees in New York since Sandy Koufax in Game 1 of the 1963 World Series.

Also, the Mariners brought in their backup catcher, Jose Godoy, who is making his Major League debut.

Jose Godoy is officially the 20,000th player in MLB history.

Entering last night's game, the Braves had the worst run differential in the NL East.

After last night's game, the Braves have the second-best run differential in the NL East.

Ryan Zimmermann is now the Natspos' all-time leader in runs scored, scoring his 948th run today.

He passed Tim Raines at 947.

And he's left the game at a pretty low pitch count and trailing just 1-0, did something happen again?

Live by the shift, die by the shift. Mets have been perfectly positioned almost all season but today in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs in a tie game they overshift and Brian Anderson pokes a hit through the vacant side. Next batter hits a walkoff HR. I know they’ve saved way more runs by shifting but it really stings watching a base hit on a weak grounder to the vacated part of the field.

I didn't think he would turn into what the Braves were hoping he would, but Austin Riley is proving my doubts wrong each passing day. He's finally seeing the ball well and has a great feel for the strike zone right now.

If he keeps this up, sliding him over to 1B next year to replace Freddie won't be a bad idea.

Yeah Austin is really seeing the ball well right now. He's wearing out right center which is a really good approach for him. I hope they consider swapping him and Ozzie in the lineup.

I hope we never see him at first base though, or at least not for a very long time. This team is beyond screwed if Freddie is not in Atlanta in 2022, and they might as well re-start the rebuild process if that is to happen. Aside from being a fan favorite, they don't have enough tools at the major or minor league levels to absorb that kind of loss in the lineup now or any time in the foreseeable future.

Yeah that's one of the really annoying things about the shift. We all know that it is proven to work more often than not, but that isn't much of a consolation in the moment when you see a routine grounder go the other way and no one is within 15 feet of it because they are not playing their normal positions.
