With his 32nd home run, Ohtani now has the record for most home runs in a season by a Japanese-born player.

We still have a whole 2nd half of the season.

I still think in the next year or two, he'll no longer pitch and will be a full time hitter.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Home run Derby is more comparable to slam dunk contest in terms of excitement.

3 point contest is nice too, but its more of a skill/competitive thing.

Home runs are exciting like a high impact dunk.

Only difference here is that good HR hitters are here and not the 19 year old John Smith's of the NBA in the dunk contest.

Ohtani is on pace to break Maris' record isn't he?

And Tatis/Vlad will likely both pass Johnny Bench for youngest players to have 28 home runs or more at the all star break. That record was set 5 years before either of their dads were born!

I'd love to see him as a Josh Hader-esque reliever and DH

Imagine Ohtani as a closer and hitter.

Although I wonder how that works. How would he warm up in the pen when he's in the dugout.

Pretty easy to walk to the pen between innings

I know between innings, but let's say its top 9th, Angels are batting, pitching change coming for bottom of the 9th, would Ohtani be warming up in the pen when he might be batting that inning?

As easy as it is to go to the bullpen between innings.. it's also just as easy to go from the bullpen to the bench.

You're really overcomplicating this. Guys do this in HS and college ALL the time. If those coaches can figure it out, I'm sure MLB managers can, too.

If his spot is coming up in the 9th and you know you want him to pitch, he goes to the bullpen in the 8th and gets ready then.

After last nights game I’d rather see the middle of the Mets lineup participate in a make contact with the bases loaded an no outs derby instead of a HR derby

                            Me and 6.20.million other people.

With traditional coverage down on ESPN, a Statcast simulcast lifted Home Run Derby viewership past last year. Viewership was still fourth-lowest since 2003.

And this year, with Ohtani being in it and it being in Coors, that number is only going to go up.

I react the same to every Ohtani home run that comes across my timeline.

I guess it only rains in NY when the Mets are playing at home. Tonight’s game is rained out and they’ll have their sixth home doubleheader before the all star break on Saturday. Some how the Yankees have only had one home game rained out and it was of course against the Mets. This team literally has a black cloud following it around
