Re: 2021-2022 Hot Stove Thread
Atlanta has a window to win right now, and I would say that even if they hadn't just won a world series. Not re-signing Freddie pretty much closes that window. Anything can happen, as we saw this year after Acuna went down. This team is going to get expensive very soon with where a lot of these guys are in their careers though. On top of that, they no longer have one of the top farm systems in baseball to replenish the ranks like they did when Acuna, Ozzie, Soroka, Dansby, Fried, etc first came up a few years ago.
You don't necessarily need to catch lightning in a bottle (like they did this year with their trades) if over the next 3 years your lineup has Freddie, Acuna and Riley in it. If it's just Acuna and Riley though then some other pieces have to fall into place, which is a hard pill to swallow for a fanbase that just finished a rebuilding project a few years ago.Comment

I would say lets trust the guy that put us in the position to win a World Series, and did, to handle negotiations and to know if the correct decision is to step away from the table from a 32 year old 1st baseman.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment

AA would be the first to tell you that hitting home runs on Soler, joc, Duvall and Rosario at the trade deadline is unheard of. I have a bigger problem setting the expectation to hit lightning in a bottle multiple times than Hoping a 32 year old is able to keep playing at a high level for a few more years.Comment

A few years at a high level he might have left, the problem is if fans want him back at any price.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment

Re: 2021-2022 Hot Stove Thread
This is not correct; Freddie's demands only put him in the top 10 of salaries in the game. A 6 year/$180M contract is extremely reasonable...I would not want any part of a 10 year/$350M or something like that, but 6/180 is worth it."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. Braves have to be careful here not to just sign players because of a hot octoberComment

Don't know where he could fit for the yankees unless they can get rid of Hicks with that contract or can he play SS? Red sox there is a place for him thoughComment

Re: 2021-2022 Hot Stove Thread
IMO, that isn't even a decision. You sign Freeman; those are all nice pieces who had nice runs to win the World Series for us, but none of them are superstars. IMO, of all of those 4 the one I want back is Duvall for his defense and power.
I think the Braves are in great shape in the outfield going forward; they have Acuna coming back and Pache/Waters/Ozuna, etc.
It would be awesome if we bring back Freeman and re-sign Duvall."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Re: 2021-2022 Hot Stove Thread
I’d spend the money on Freeman over the other guys but I’ve really only seen Freeman play vs the Mets where he hits a HR seemingly every at bat so I might not have the most accurate perception of himComment

Re: 2021-2022 Hot Stove Thread
Not sure if you thought I meant one of the trade deadline guys. Overall I agree with you, you don't break someone off because of 1 hot October or even 1 hot season necessarily. The 32 year old that I was referring was Freeman though. So consistency should be more assured than some random or event decent player who had 1 hot stretch.Comment

Re: 2021-2022 Hot Stove Thread
Mets have started Manager interviews. Brad Ausmus and Rays bench coach Matt Quatraro already interviewed, Schowalter, Bob Geren, and Astros bench coach Joe Espada are also supposed to interview. I’m pretty indifferent on them all, just get someone that can manage a bullpen and not lose the clubhouse. Hiring someone from Tampa does scare me though. They’re managed by their analytics team so hiring their bench coach to be your manager seems like hiring a Patriots assist and expecting him to bring New England’s success with himComment

I never knew moves could still take place right now.
Only minor league moves are allowed to happen right now.
Most notable being Nats signing Dee Strange-Gordon to a minor league deal.
He's about to become the MVP of the 2022 MLB SCAB league when he gets a ST Invite and all the major leaguers are locked out.Comment
