I don't like how the tweet is worded. If it is an extension doesn't that mean it should start after the 2 years of arbitration he has left? And if it isn't, then the tweet should clarify that the Braves are buying out his last 2 arbitration years as it is customary to be worded in these cases.

Yeah, I didn't see the press release, just the tweet. Anyways, the story won't end until we know (if ever) what the Braves offered Freeman, what Freeman wanted and what he ends up signing for.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment

What makes you think we're saying no thanks? The Braves wanted him bad and were willing to pay, but from account they didn't want to agree to a deal that was 6 years at minimum. It makes sense, too. If it turns out Freddie would have signed for 3 or 4 years and the Braves were being cheap, then we can rag on the organization, but everything we've heard so far has pointed towards the signing not happening simply because Freeman wants a longterm deal and the Braves not wanting to commit 6 years and a ton of money to a guy that will be 33 before the playoffs begin.

I just feel for Freddie that he signed that longterm deal when he was young, only to watch us go into rebuild mode. He never asked out. And now that we're contenders, that extra year is too much.
He'll be OK. He'll get the deal he's looking for. And we'll be OK with Olson.
Edit: Like I told one of my friends: I hate myself for thinking what AA is doing is smart, because I really didn't want to lose Freddie.Last edited by LowerWolf; 03-15-2022, 01:56 PM.Comment

AA sure has a taste for long term contracts that cover arbitration years, seems to be his specialty.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment

I'm 99 percent certain the extra year was the snag. And from a baseball standpoint, what AA is doing is smart. Lock up the younger player to less annual money.

I can see the logic for giving him 6 years to keep him around. I can see the logic for saying we will give you 5 at most. I'm on the side that agrees with not giving him the longterm deal he wanted.
Yea, it sucks the face of the franchise the last decade is gone, but like you said, it's probably the smart move unless Olson has some freak injury or has his production fall off a cliff unexpectedly.

I keep seeing "heart and soul", "heart and soul" online regarding Freeman and Braves fans are mad/sad, whatever you wanna call it, about the situation (I get it). Have you guys seen Albies' contract? I just took a look at it again, wow. I'm still waiting for his agent to be arrested

Now Padres in on Freeman.
I honestly thought him and Correa would have been the first 2 off the board.
