Besides the Jays, has anyone else been linked to him?

The deal makes too much sense for the Jays for it to not happen.

He's the exact player they need/plays the position they need, with the bonus being that the guys responsible for him in Cleveland are running the Jays now too.

Not a direct response, but Jays commented on the vaccine requirements impact on their team.

Basically, they mention that they weren't able to sign certain FA or make certain trades after finding out the player wasn't vaccinated.

So for all those teams complaining about playing up to 10 road games in Toronto due to a "competitive disadvantage", Jays still this season are being impacted by the very same rule, for an entire season, and they're ok with it.

I'd much rather have done a Jays style retool where they team didn't have to be a bad for as long, but Detroit (and Philly) was so overleveraged with bad contracts and no farm trying to win their first title with that group, that they really had no other option than a total purge. As we've seen with Philly, it's no guarantee of success; they've been stuck now in the doldrums for several years. That said, as long as there are success stories, teams will keep doing it.

The Braves did tank, but my original comment about the Braves payroll has nothing to do with them tanking. The Braves have long had a reputation of not spending big money. We're talking about for nearly 20 years back to the early 2000s when they let the likes of Glavine, Maddux, Sheffield, Lopez, Drew, Furcal, Andruw, ect. all leave cause they didn't want to spend money to keep them.

The only reason Chipper didn't end of leaving as well was because he always took less money to stay with the Braves. Heck, the Braves once traded Kevin Millwood for a little known minor league catcher named Johnny Estrada in a pure salary dump move cause they said they couldn't afford to pay both Millwood and Maddux back in 2003.

Braves payroll is top 10 right now for the first time in years. Braves fans had to sit and watch as teams all around baseball spent money while the Braves payroll never went up. It stayed in the same $80M-$100M range for many years. It was depressing to a point to see. But now the fan support and revenue is finally being put back into the roster and it's exciting to see.

Random note about the Jays-Rockies trade.

Grichuk and Tapia were traded for each other and both will retain their old numbers, which is #15 in both cases.

I wonder how often guys who were traded for each other had the same number on their old and new team, which happened to be the same number as the guy you were traded for.

              PUJOLS BACK TO THE CARDINALS

There's a VERY good chance that 2022 is the Farewell Tour for Albert, Wainwright, and Yadi in St. Louis.

Pujols just dropped into the Cards' spring training dugout in full uniform, which pretty well confirms that even though the team hasn't officially announced it yet.

Edit: He was introduced for a walk-in into the park, so this was planned out and an official confirmation from the team is imminent.

Freddie seems slightly bitter in his farewell letter to Atlanta fans.

Well he did say he felt betrayed when the Braves traded for AND extended his replacement before he even made up his mind.

Still shocked Conforto does not have a team. Boras did a bang-up job of not understanding his market. Bet he regrets last year turning down when the Mets offered him over 100 million extension.
