the irony here is if it is 14 teams owners will spend LESS money to 'go for it' when 80 wins might get you a playoff spot and no need to go out and make trades.
so it won't be much change as far as the tanking goes. most teams will just sit around now and not risk any trades knowing they are a chance to make the playoffs by being below mediocre

That's the debate here.
Players wanted 12 teams.
That's probably the best number. You still typically need high 80s win total to make playoffs here, but it still keeps more teams in the playoff race and more fans invested for longer parts of the season.
well... with 14 teams the reds and philias only need 82 and 83 wins... padres with 79 wins would have been next in the mix. there will be many years of this happening I am sure. this is how we seen the marlins and Houston make the playoffs in 2020 they have no place there. and Houston almost made the world series because of it going under 500.
Think about that Houston almost made a World series with 29 wins!! that is insane.
Bob Nightengale has been a true GOAT on twitter with this.
they are only finalizing smaller things now on luxury tax threshold and still talking after midnight.. I can feel it guys I can feel it!! we might have baseball spring training games next week!! let's hope nothing goes backwards here
Can they add a "no extra innings rules or other dumb measures not now not for the next hundred years and if anyone dares propose it they get sent to the gulags" clause?
We already implemented a lot of dumb ****. We need a moratorium. Playoff system bad enough.
