    5/30 - 6/12 Game Discussion Thread

    We are heading into June
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

David Bednar pulled his best Tyler Palko impression in the post game interview last night after picking up the win vs the Dodgers .

Adam Cimber leads the league in wins AND blown saves.

It's the latest into a season anyone has ever done that.

Which team is currently most likely to go on a mid season turnaround? The two teams I think of when it comes to turnarounds are the 2009 Rockies and of course the 2019 Nationals. Rockies were 18-29 before Clint Hurdle resigned and Jim Tracy took over but were quickly 47-41 by All Star break and finished with the wild card spot at 92-70, almost stealing division from the Dodgers

Nationals started 19-31 following a sweep by the Mets (the team that was SUPPOSED to be the dark horse competitor in the division), but led by 3 different pitchers to have 200 strikeouts, they went 28-11 after to get to 47-42. They were set up for a monster second half of the season and it became clear they had a stranglehold on the first wild card spot in the NL, but I don’t think anyone had any idea they’d run the table, myself included

My pick for a mid season turnaround is Philly. I know Harper and Castellanos are carrying their squad right now and that defense is still a cause for concern, but let’s look beyond surface level. Their rotation is more than acceptable with Wheeler / Nola / Gibson as their top 3 rotation arms, and despite the struggles to form any consistency the top half of the lineup has more than enough power while the bottom half has guys that can consistently put the ball in play (Segura, Gregorious)

I had them at 88-74 before the season and I still think they’re the 2nd best team in the NL East behind the Mets

Based on current strength of schedule and remaining one, I think Philly, White Sox and Braves will.

The Nationals keep over shifting on Jeff McNeil and he keeps slapping the ball to the opposite field for a single. Ive never been so excited over three singles

Jays were so close to getting the routine 5-4-3 game ending TRIPLE PLAY.

They'll settle for a double play instead and wind up winning ANOTHER 1 run game.

They've tied their entire 2021 total for 1 run wins!

And dont look now, but they end May now in 1st in the wildcard! It helps when you 4 game sweep the former #1 WC team and continue winning after.

Biggest reason why he’s been our most consistent hitter this year, and biggest reason why banning the shift was stupid from the start. If you can’t learn how to hit to the opposite field, you’re not that skilled of a player

17 teams are under 500 and MLB wants 14 teams in the playoffs LOL

12 feels like too much as it is. Yes, 8 wasnt enough, but the one thing that I've always loved about baseball playoffs was its exclusivity and how it placed high importance on the marathon of a regular season. Dumbing it down and letting 14 teams in will lead to stupid amounts of load management and we don't want to see the regular season watered down like the NBA

12 I feel like is a good number, and 14 should only ever exist if/when they go to 32 teams.

Right now the WORST projected record to make the playoffs is 87 wins. That's not a bad mark.

That's the equivalent of a 9 win team making NFL playoffs or a 44 win team making the NBA playoffs.

I don't think teams will be resting guys because they made the playoffs. Seeding matters a lot.

Let's say season ends next week. If you're the Jays or Rays, the better team gets home field, likely against the other team, while the Angels will be playing the Twins, which might be the easier 1st round matchup, but it's not with home field, and winning that series means a rested Yankees in ALDS, which becomes the harder path to the WS.

In the NL, would you rather have home field vs Cards/Padres/Giants, or no home field vs the Brewers.

12 teams is fine in my opinion, I just think expanding to 14 would water down the field way too much. It would be like the COVID playoffs, which was horrible and too much of a crapshoot

And to answer your question, let's look at last year's Braves / Brewers series. I dont think anyone thought Atlanta was going to run the table on the whole bracket, but I think most people definitely expected them to beat Milwaukee, regardless of the fact that the Brewers had home field. Their contact hitters were not a good matchup for Atlanta's power bats
