Dodgers are doing what they should be. But one thing I've learned it doesn't really matter. It rarely works out in baseball. Padres did the same thing and were terrible. Won't even surprise me if the Diamondbacks end up being better. Baseball is just random like that. Seems like the best team on paper never wins.

Braves get Matt Carpenter, Ray Kerr and cash considerations from the Padres for outfield prospect Drew Campbell.

Kerr was the target for Atlanta. Carpenter is expected to be flipped (because AA love to flip this offseason).

The best team in baseball rarely wins, and Ohtani wouldn't have made a difference in this year's playoffs, but if you make the postseason every year and keep trying to improve, you should eventually win a dice roll or two. The Dodgers aren't going to win 4 or 5 World Series while Ohtani's there, but they should win 1 or 2.

This is the same reason why a lack of salary cap is tolerable in MLB where it wouldn't be in any of the other North American leagues. Variability is so high that the field is always going to be the favourite over any one powerhouse, so you will still see a variety of winners. A capless NFL, NHL, or (especially) NBA would be disastrous IMO.

EDIT: While I don't believe a hard cap is necessary in baseball, I'm all in favour of a salary floor to prevent cheapskate owners from crying poor and then pocketing money from the bigger clubs instead of funneling it back into their big league roster or player development.

Dodgers used a video that Kobe Bryant recorded years ago to tell Ohtani to go to the Dodgers.


Not that the video was any sort of deciding factor, but I just wonder the ethics involved in using a dead celebrity in a promo video like that. It reminds me of the Simpsons episode where corporations took over all their advertising by using dead celebs to promote their stuff.

Isn't Magic still a co-owner/minority owner of the Dodgers and a Lakers/Los Angeles legend?

I'm pretty sure that as protective as the Bryant family/Vanessa Bryant is that she'd be okay with this (if she was notified beforehand).

Sounds like people online (whichever fanbase) are sour that Ohtani didn't sign with their team, so let's try to "rain on their parade."

Also, apparently it was footage previously recorded by Kobe attempting to lure Ohtani to the Dodgers (during his original free-agency after leaving Japan).

Mets and Yankees had a second meeting this weekend with Yamamoto. He has a few more second meetings today but starting to heat up that this decision could come this week. Which would be great for the rest of the pitching market
