    Steve Stone on ESPN?

He's doing the Angels/White Sox game today on the Deuce with Jeff Brantley and someone else. Just kind of surprised me. I didn't hear him or Chip Carey on the Cubs/Angels WGN broadcast about 10 days ago. Is this a new gig for him or is he just doing it since he lives out in Arizona and/or just because he's already there covering the Cubbies?

I thought someone said Steve Stone left the Cubbies? I'm sure this is just a ST gig. I mean I saw Steve Philips doing a game earlier in ST and yeesh he'll get grating on the ears if he's a full time ESPN guy.

Well that's kind of what I'm looking to find out too is if Stone left the Cubs and this is his new job. I've heard Phillips on there too and he is brutal. I think he was doing MLB games last year on ESPN though.

Yep he did leave the Cubs because of player/manager issues.

I thought the Cubs gave him his walking papers for critisizing the team. I think it's a good move by ESPN to bring him in. Anything is better than listening to Suckliffe.

I think he is doing some spring training games and he might do a game aweek during the season. His new "main" job is working for the Score Sports radio 670 in Chicago as their lead baseball analylist covering the Cubs and Sox. I wish I could tape it and play it for you guys as he is on a couple of times a week. Steve Stone is one of the greatest baseball minds I have ever heard. So damn refreshing.

See I just don't get that. Grown men can't take criticism? These pampered athletes always have to have sunshine blown up their bunghole? Marty Brenneman has draw the Reds ire in the past for being too crtitical of the team and or management. All he does it tell it like it is. I say grown a damn spine. Yeah, I know it is their employer or fellow employees they are criticizing but it is also their job to "call 'em as they see 'em." I'm glad Steve Stone will be doing games somewhere. I totally agree with poster. Great baseball mind.

BTW, I'll never forget a telecast he did with Harry Carey not too long after Sosa arrived on the Cubs. Harry was saying something about Sammy as he was up at the plate and then says, "Steve did you know that Sosa spelled backwards is Asos?" Stone follows that up smoothly with, "And you know Harry, Sammy is hitting .375 against (whoever was pitching)..." or something along those lines. Classic!

Keep in mind as you said that he's an employee of the Tribune Company. That's a huge thing in why he was let go. Some teams allow their broadcasters to be unbiased and honest but most teams wouldn't allow that kind of stuff.
