Nah, he over manages at times. Not to mention he's had great talent to work with (but a manager should be able to do well with great talent).

Same way you pulled Phil Jackson out of the blue in comparision to Joe Torre...

I was just saying is there a comparable coach in the NFL that is like a Torre (MLB) or Jackson (NBA) that has had the amount of success(luck) as to get great players year in and year out and never have to bring teams out of mediocricy ala Larry Brown(NBA)

I knows its off thread topic but just an interesting question

Bobby Cox in my opinion, and then Joe Torre. LaRussa, well, his 8 straight World Series loses kinda put a damper on things for me.

Well to be more correct, I said some may want to make the comparison but that would be inappropriate. It wasnt meant to inspire someone to draft a comprehensive list of all coaches in all sports who bear any resemblence to Phil Jackson.

I dont get it. The 8 straight losses by LaRussa are from two WS appearancs ranging from 1990 to 2004, yet Bobby Cox goes to how many WSs with loaded teams and wins only once. Cox had more shots at the title than LaRussa and has a lower success rate, yet somehow Cox is better for that reason? WTF? I agree Cox is better but I really dont get this logic--AT ALL.

I think it HAS to be Bobby Cox and Joe Torre at the top 2 positions, in no specific order.

Also, an honorable mention would be Dusty Baker. The guy most always keeps his teams in the thick of it, and he plays a good game of baseball.

Dustys strength is the morale side of it. Hes an awful strategist. Also, Lou is a much better manager than Joe. Joe has been good/great for the Yankees but the other teams...kind of so/so. Lou consistantly puts teams out there that are far better than what people expected.

Hmmmmm worst move ever wasnt he the one who orchestrated the WS game 6 in 2002 when he gave Russ Ortiz the game ball and brought inthe relief? And then Spezio took the reliever for a 3 run jack?
