I guess Angelos was right to worry
I saw a portion of a quick report on the Nationals and how they're siphoning off Orioles' ticket sales. Apparently O's season tickets are down 15% compared to last season. I guess Peter Angelos was right to worry about his fanbase disappearing if there's a DC area team.

It's only the first year. Wait 'till the DC fans realize their team sucks, then we'll see..but nonetheless to me this is excellent news. Screw Angelos!Comment

This area has more than enough baseball fans to support both teams.Comment

Re: I guess Angelos was right to worry
Yeah, I'm in agreement that ticket sales are in decline because the Orioles did next to nothing to improve their team. They added Sosa but they didn't really need much offense, they needed pitching and they did nothing to fix their rotatation. The few O's fans that I know are quite ticked about the offseason.Comment

Except with any luck the Nationals will be pretty decent in 2-3 years so..."Darth Vader doesn't cry, Peter."

Re: I guess Angelos was right to worry
Looking at their front office I have a hunch they wont be very good any time soon. But Baltimore is the same really, if anything both teams are in a similarly messy situation i.e. a situation where their present way of running things wont get them in the playoffs. Its no wonder the O's suffer, they are in a division with the Red Sox and the Yanks, they dont have as much money as either team, they would have enough money to compete with them if they handled it very cleverly but they dont so they arent competing thus interest is going down.Comment

Re: I guess Angelos was right to worry
Angelos bent over the Nationals in terms of their tv contract.
The O's probably lost season ticket sales because they had a poor season last year and did little to improve in the off-season.
Don't forget it's probably the O's that are reporting season ticket sales dropped off 15%. They could be doing this so they can get more money from MLB once they find a new owner for the N's.Comment

Re: I guess Angelos was right to worry
Dont forget the ever so famous quote Angelos made, "there are no real baseball fans in DC". That angered MANY people in the DC area. He has noone to blame but himself.
As far as the Nats go, when they get a new owner he could be a rich man and willing to put loads of money into this organization. I think they will be fine within a few years. When life hands you a lemon, just look up and say, "Oh yeah, is that all you got? Because I love lemons!".Comment
