This thread is absolutely ridiculous. You people need to chill out. One week into the season and your judging the team off 6 games. You guys are the *** clowns. Just look at every team other team right now and tell me if there actual record and who they have lost to is reflective of how good of a team they are.

The most pathetic thing is that I thought these forums were filled with intelligent sports fans not homers. If you people knew anything about baseball you would know that you can't judge a team( a .500 team mind you) from a six game stretch in the beginning of the season.

This is just pathetic, all you fair-weather and bandwagon fans can go home while the real fans try to enjoy some baseball. GO CUBBIES!

Ok let's play "Let's be objective".

1. The Cubs have no leadoff hitter. If you think that Corey Patterson is a leadoff hitter, you are not objective. You are a homer. It's always a race to see what Corey will get more of. K's or Hits. He usually gets about the same every year.

2. The Cubs Bullpen is weak. They have no closer. They did nothing to get a closer. If you beleive in LaTroy Hawkins, more power to ya. Please come back after some more classic LaTroy Hawkins moments. This leads to point 3.

3. The Cubs were stupid/and too cheap to not keep Clement. Was Clement the best pitcher in baseball? Nope. Was he good? Yep. What happened when he left? Well it weakened the bullpen even futher without having Dempster in it since we needed another starter.

4. Kerry Wood has never even won 15 games and now is becoming injury prone. Wood has shown nothing more then being a thrower. His control is shakey at best. At his best he's streaky. At his worst he falls apart and walks too many batters, too many leadoff batters specifically. He has not ever shown that he can be an 'Ace' of a pitching staff.

5. Mark Prior is has not shown anything close to his form two years ago. Some people say that even people inside the Cubs organization think that Prior might be 'soft'. There are real concerns. The jury is still out on him, but at this point it's all up in the air.


NOTHING was done to make this team better in the off season. If getting rid of players and broadcasters are your idea of making a team better then yes you are a homer buying the company line. They are happy for it. Their offense is weaker, their starting pitching is weaker, their bullpen is weaker....so other than that. I see a stellar year.

You can say '6 games this, 6 games that', but these are facts that have been in place since BEFORE the season. As a Cub fan for over 30 years I've seen plenty with this team. As has my father. They have/had a small window that they didn't do everything to take advantage of. Success is fleeting in baseball, and when you have the opportunity you go for it. They didn't and now will deal with the consequences...to sellout crowds every day win or lose. I know I won't be there, but if you'd like to help their bottom line be my guest. They've added more premium seats and added some 'premium' concessions from what I hear. Enjoy!

Maybe my 20 years of fandom doesn't equal your godlike 30 years but not once in anything that I have said did I mention any of those problems. If your reading comprehension was up to par with your 30 years of being a fan then maybe you would see that what I was saying is that the proverbial ledge that everyone is jumping off shouldn't even exist this early in the season.

If you were to look it up 17 teams were 3-3 at the start of this glorious day. Did you see any other "-insert team name here- f'n suck" threads? NO. Why, because there weren't any. Everyone needs to chill and let a 162 game season play out!

Perhaps you should come down from that ledge so you and I can have a conversation where both parties are on the same page.

Yes he did. You really offer little of substance other than the fact that theyve only played 6 games which he commented on (remember "six games this or six games that"). Do you really think the front office is interested in winning? I mean, they might and it would be great, but it would be happenstance more than anything. The front office is only concerned about keeping the lemmings like you as you are.

I'll be the first to admit that I may have gone a little overboard in starting this thread but the fact still remains. I was skeptical after the offseason and my fears seem to be playing out already. And although it's only the 8th day of the season I just have an unusually bad feeling about it. I was eager to see what Burnitz could do and today he single handedly lost the game for the Cubs. For those of you who didn't see it let me give you the rundown. First and foremost he struck out 3 times, and once with the bases loaded and another time with runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs (which meant a base hit scored 2). Not only did he fail miserably in driving in any runs he also gave San Diego their run by dropping the ball in the 6th. The next play after the dropped ball another was hit over his head, which in my opinion could have easily been caught had he not been afraid of the brick wall. The Padres scored the only run with a grounder to second for the 2nd out (which would have been the third had Burnitz caught either ball hit to him). Thanks, Sam...I mean Jeromy.

All in all, I love the Cubs and unfortunately will never give up on them.

Hes no Steve Stone certainly but you could do worse than Brenly. I like the new play by play guy, so far, a lot more than I do ol' Chip. I just couldnt take Chip.

As for those of you who just LOVE everything about the Cubs no matter what, you're the reason the Cubs have sucked for so long. Just 'cause the Cubs have had back-to-back .500+ seasons we should be happy? My signature holds true yet again.

Well, they're 10-10 after tonight and while it's early in the season, the Cubbies have some work to do - as much as I love them...

1. Their bullpen is awful - I agree 100% and they need to get a consistent closer otherwise they can kiss a wildcard spot goodbye (realistically, I don't think they can win the division with the Cards being a great team)
2. I can't blame them for letting Clement go too much because he wasn't consistent as a Cub - he'd have some great starts and games where he was awful...He probably needed a change of scenery too.
3. Kerry Wood is overrated IMHO. I like Wood and all, but he's getting hurt a lot and as mentioned before, he's never won more than 15 games. He was being compared to Roger Clemens when he was a rookie, but he's nowhere near...
4. Their players are getting hurt - Walker, Nomar, Prior, Wood are always injury risks...
5. I hate Dusty Baker - he's overrated too

Ramirez, Lee, and Zambrano have been positives and Prior's great start is encouraging, but the Cubs will need to find a way to get better this season - via trade, miracle or whatever to remain in the play-off hunt. If I'm not a true fan for being critical, then whatever...I love the Cubs and want them to win as much as the next Cubs' fan, and while I'm happy they're not the Devil Rays, it'd be nice to see them win. The Cubs have a decent team now, but unless Hendry can acquire some bullpen help and maybe another bat, they will not be seeing play-offs again this season...
