I actually think its not so bad...it adds to the overall intensity. It wasnt anything major in and of itself though even though it could have been.

Agree 100% I think the real story here should be how terrible the umpires were.

They blew the call when Millar missed Womack by about 2 feet and the home plate umpire was simply pathetic, making inconsistent calls for both sides.

I agree, because at first glance it looks as though the shove caused all the mess, but in reality it didn't.

Well, I would hope that none of us have a job where that would be a legit possibility.

My main problem with what Sheffield did was he tried to settle the situation while the ball was still in play. That is a total lapse in control on his behalf. Yeah, I understand in the end his slight delay had no effect on the outcome of the AB, but he should not allow anything to deter his attention from the fact there is a live ball in the field of play. I also understand the whole "heat of the situation" side of things, as well, but still, he has to keep his head in play. Thankfully, after the play was over, he was able to do just that. It would have been a really ugly incident had Sheff continued down the road he was headed.

So if a Red Sox outfielder was hit in the head by a battery or somthing and got knocked out by a Yankee fan and couldnt throw the ball in, there wouldnt be a ruling.

And there were NO circumstances in this game to change the rules.

Being knocked unconscious would render the fielder incapable of fielding the ball, the passing blow to Sheff's hat didn't.

That's a completely different situation. The fan barely brushed Sheffield. He didn't affect the play at all.
