It wasn't exactly a brawl. A little bit of pushing and shoving but not much else. The Red Sox and D-Rays always manage to get into this when they play at the Trop. There's been a lot of hit batsmen in this series so far so this was bound to happen. The best response was Manny jacking a HR the pitch after they threw behind him.

Totally justified in having an altercation after Ortiz gets hit.

I don't like the idea of Arroyo throwing at a random batter who had nothing to do with the original incident, it's one of the things I think is stupid about baseball. Gimme hockey where the two guys who have a problem with one another will go toe-to-toe.

Man I can't stand David Ortiz.

The guy who hit the HR on Tampa didn't show up the Sox in the first game by throwing his bat. But Ortiz definitely did the next game, even though the Sox still ended up losing.

            He is such a punk.

Perez didn't throw his bat, but he certainly put a lot of enthusiasm in flipping it. I didn't see a problem with it really, it was a lot like Manny's celebration when he hit the home run off of Zito game five of the ALDS in 2003. The guy was just psyched he hit a home run in a big spot for his team. In all three of these cases, the guys knew they were gone as soon as they hit it. Plus, Ortiz had been in a slump, so absolutley crushing two balls would probably get him psyched.

I don't really understand the whole "even though the Sox still ended up losing" they were winning at the time, and it's not like Ortiz is psychic.

                  WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

All of the big home run hitters show boat in today's game when they crush one, and usually they don't get a ball thrown at their head the next day.

Arroyo shouldn't have hit Huff, it should have all been over after Schilling hit Crawford last night (after the Drays had hit 3 batters) and then McClung decided to fling one over someone's head the following inning. If your team hits three batters, with one pitcher who has a history with the players he hit drilling them, you should expect retaliation and let it end there. Some players are just dumb and don't know how to play the game. Why Carter threw one at Ortiz's head is beyond me, maybe he was pissed that he tried to send a message to Manny and missed only to have Manny take him deep on the next pitch. Meh, its entertaining at least.

Been there, said that. Join the club. I also can't stand that fat-assed Spanish Shrek-looking douche, ever since I saw him first play for the BoSox.

Glad to see the Sox haven't lost their enthusiasm. After putting the 2005 season in jeopardy with their ill-fated appearance on "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy", I was totally expecting the team to show up wearing "Win Red Sox Win" t-shirts (Rocky III reference...)

That stuff goes on alot more in the American League. Its easy for a pitcher to be a bad a$$ headhunter when they don't have to worry about digging in at the plate. Haven't seen Clemens or Pedro throw at too many heads now that they have to hit for themselves.

If Johnny Damon makes an appearence on the Muppet show, or wrestles Hulk Hogan, then it will be time to worry.

Carter is a punk for throwing at Ortiz's dome. Hitting a batter to protect your own team is one thing, but to aim for a guys head and putting his health in serious jeopardy crosses the line.

I expect more of the same in the next series between these teams.

BTW what a bomb by Papi!
