    Re: Screw The World Series....

PS- Liquid and Cook... the Angles ARE outplaying the Giants. The series is indeed tied, but the Angels have the lead in all but one... one statistical category. I guess luck has something to do with it.

    Through game 3.

    Average: Giants .238 Angels .353
    Runs: Giants 18 Angles 24
    Hits: Giants 24 Angels 41
    2B: Giants 1 Angles 8
    3B: Giants 0 Angels 1
    HR: Giants 9 Angles 4
    RBI: Giants 18 Angels 22
    BB: Even at 12
    SB: Giants 2 Angels 5
    OBP: Giants .313 Angels .415
    SLG: Giants .515 Angels .543
    ERA: Giants 7.27 Angels 6.00
    WHIP: Giants 2.04 Angels: 1.33

BaseballGURU...watch your tone dude. I didn't attack anyone in my statement. If you find this World Series to be exciting, watching argueably the best hitter in baseball history getting walked every at bat, you can't call yourself a true fan of the game. I said that some would say that it is smart to walk him, but c'mon. In the world series?? Time after time, after time, after time....this is not exciting!!! Yes it might be in their best interest to not let him hit, but that IS IN FACT CHICKEN****!!! The series is supposed to be a slugfest, all weapons used...Anaheim is playing scared...very simply put. Call it smart or whatever...you are probably the kid who ran from all the fights in high school and believed it when your daddy said that was the SMART thing to do. (That WAS a personal attack...lol)

Ughh, another nominee for dumbest post of the week.

The Angels are trying to win a World Series, not get in to a HR derby with the Giants. This is Major League Baseball, not MLB Slugfest.

Whether it's chicken**** or not, it's a valid strategy and for the most part has worked so far.

Hmm, what would Scioscia rather have a WS ring, or a WS loss, but the respect of some internet forum poster because he pitched to Bonds.

Theres a reason the Angels management is where they are and you are where you are.

Yes, this series sucks because one guy out of the 50 guys involved is being dodged when he comes up to bat once every three innings.

Find a larger soapbox to stand on somewhere else.

                Probably.

I think it is kind of a lame strategy, I understand it, but I don't think I could do it, I would want to challeng the guy if I was pitching, If my best is not good enough than so be it, but I would want to try, From a fan stand point that has no vested interest in either team winning, I just sit there and go " come on pitch to the guy, I want to see him hit". If you are admitting that you can't get him out, for me that just goes against what competition is about.

Now pitching around him or Intentionally walking him when men are on 2nd and 3rd I could understand, but 1st and 3rd with one out, that is just weak. I realize that it might be an effective strategy, in this case, but not exactly a competitive one.

I watch a lot of Cubs games and when you see a guy actually challenge Sosa, even when Sosa strikes out he is grateful that someone actually gave him some hittable pitches and it is much worse for Bonds, because he refuses to expand his strike zone.

                    Re: Screw The World Series....

Its the World Series, and taking a chance on Bonds isn't really the smart thing to do.

I am a fan of baseball and I am a fan of smart baseball. The Angels are playing smart, not scared. And to say thay are playing scared tells ME that you know nothing about the game of baseball.

So, Bonds isn't getting pitched to. Too bad. If his team can't pick up the slack, why should they? They don't want to cut off their nose to spite their face...

It's like someone else said. Why would you pitch to him when you have a guy batting .125 hitting behind him? If the Giants want him to get pitches to hit, they should shuffle their batting order and put someone with a hot hand behind him. Hell with the way Santiago's hitting, I'd almost be willing to walk Bonds with the bases empty and 1 out so I could set up the double play with Santiago. It's simple, smart baseball.
No, I didn't draft Grossman on my fantasy team, what do you think I am an idiot?

                        Re: Screw The World Series....

I disagree with you cook... you say it is weak to walk the bases loaded with only one out and a guy on first and third... that takes just as much if not more guts than pitching to a guy. They are opening themselves up to a big inning by the Giants with walking Barry, but twice last night it ended up being brilliant strategy because Benito grounded into double plays. What if he gets a hit, or there is a passed ball, or the pitcher walks him? Big inning potential....

As for what Will said, I couldn't agree more. People are whining about the World Series, saying the games suck because Bonds isn't getting pitched to... that's ridiculous. 3 of the 4 games have been decided by one run, there's been everything from hit and runs to late inning rallies and, god forbid, plenty of strategy by both teams. Why is it that suddenly homeruns equal fun and the rest of baseball sucks? People in this thread have said that if you don't think Barry being walked sucks then you're not a true fan of the game, but I think just the opposite is true. If you can't see the strategy involved and only want to see people hit the ball out of the park, maybe you're a true Barry fan, but you're not a fan of the game.

Waiting to see what other anti-guru bandwagon people jump into the fray now... did you ever notice how people are usually nice to me until one person says something negative, then they all come out of the woodworks with their generated letters and "I can't believe I'm agreeing with Guru because I never listen to him anyways" statements? It's amazing how many people never listen to me but know what I've said in every thread since OS started.

I don't see the big deal. Bonds has been walked all year long. I don't think walking the bases loaded with 1 out is a smart move, but the A's rolled the dice and got lucky. But the Giants did win last night, and Barry didn't hit a HR like the 3 previous games.

It's all about winning the game. You got to do what you got to do. And if that's intentionally walking a batter to face someone else, then do it.

I think they award the World Series to the winner of 4 games on the scoreboard not in the style column. If they even did that, then the Pirates would NOT of won the 1960 WS, look it up if you don't know what I'm talking about. If you walk him the whole series and you win 4 games, then you are the champions.

I have no doubt my baseball knowledge is sound and probably greater than most of you and I still think that not pitching to Bonds is weak. Like I said before I understand it, but I couldn't do it myself in some of the situations they have not pitched to him.
