Pay-Rod sure does put up the numbers though... but doesn't come through in the clutch, as I'm sure you saw all last year, especially in the Playoffs.... *coughBostoncough*

So a game tying double in extra innings to keep the Yankees from falling behind the Twins 2-0 in the series isn't clutch?

He hit .300 in the postseason last. Had an OPS of 1.014.

ALDS isn't important? Unless there are guys out there who have never failed in a big spot before, I don't know how much more you want.

Well, while A-Rod did hit .320 last year in the playoffs, here's how his stats breakdown in terms of the Yanks wins and losses:

Wins - 6 games

So when were all these big at bats in the playoffs last year that they really needed a hit, and he didn't get it? I can think of one, in game 4 of the ALCS, with a runner on 3rd and one out, he struck out.

Never said he's a savior, but he's also not the choke artist that a lot of Yankee fans, and bitter Mets fans say he is.

I don't see your point splitting it into wins and losses. Obviously teams are more likely to win when their best players are hitting.

I also think placing the blame of losing 4 straight ALCS games on Arod's shoulders is giving him too much credit. A lot had to go wrong for the Yankees, or right for the Red Sox depending on how you look at it, for them to lose that series. Arod is just an easy target because he is high profile and highly paid.

I think a lot of his reputation as a choke artist comes from the fact that both the Mariners and Rangers improved after his departure. Whether or not his leaving was the reason for the improvement would be difficult to prove.

Yes, that is true, a .320 clip in the playoffs is a very good start. Do keep in mind that I said there are different levels of clutch and important ABs in the playoffs. How do the ABs A-Rod had from around the third inning on in Game 3 compare to his going 0-5 in the eight inning on in Games 4 & 5? While every AB counts, surely you realize the different levels of importance of them.

For example, Andruw Jones went 6 for 10 (.600) with two homers and four RBI in the games that Atlanta lost to Houston in the NLDS last year. He was doing his part, it was the rest of the offense that floundered.

Someone has to step up and pick up the slack when it counts, and Andruw did that for Atlanta. Can you say the same about A-Rod when Boston regained the momentum in the ALCS?

Just to clarify, I'm not placing the blame, or even the brunt on it on A-Rod's shoulders. Far from it, because like you said, a lot of things had to fall into place for the immaculate comeback. What I am saying is that A-Rod's bat went silent when the Yankees needed it most.

All true, and your right, the last 3 games of the series he did not hit well. But outside of game 3, it wasn't like he was just tacking extra runs on either. Yankees don't get past the Twins without Arod, and they probably aren't up 3-0 on Boston either.

All true, and your right, the last 3 games of the series he did not hit well. But outside of game 3, it wasn't like he was just tacking extra runs on either. Yankees don't get past the Twins without Arod, and they probably aren't up 3-0 on Boston either.

But, outside of game three, the only key scoring innings that A-Rod played an intergral part in were the two extra inning games against Minnesota.
