I lost some respect for Schilling

Schilling blasted Piniella during an interview on a Boston radio station on Tuesday, saying Piniella had forgotten how the game is played after the first of two bench-clearing fracases erupted between the Red Sox and Devil Rays when Lance Carter threw a pitch over the head of David Ortiz on Sunday.

Schilling went on to say he heard some Devil Rays players were making negative comments on the field about their skipper.

"Lou's trying to make his team be a bunch of tough guys, and the telling sign is when the players on that team are saying, 'This is why we lose 100 games a year, because this idiot makes us do stuff like this,'" Schilling said in the interview.

I admire how Schilling speaks his mind but he doesn't need to say how Lou has forgotten how the game is played. I wonder if he's actually going to call him.

Anytime a pitcher is throwing at somebodys head you're going to have some angry teammates. Piniella has been in the game a long time but he is struggling when it comes to managing these young pitchers. Schilling may have been a little out of line but you can't really blame him when taking the entire situation into account. Is Zimmer still a TB coach? I wonder if Zim had been in the dugout what he would have had to say about it.

This wouldn't be an issue if the Tampa Bay Chiefs hadn't decided to once again to goon it up by throwing at the heads of Red Sox players. This isn't the first in recent memory either... though I'm not sure if the prior bad incident was by a Pinella managed team. If a team is going to throw at players heads then maybe it does reflect back on the manager... Schilling let his mouth fly though... Pinella's earned a bit more respect than that, but the next beanball flies and its out the window... Tampa Bay has proven themselves to the Sox fans to be a team that is so bad that they need to take out their frustration by plunking Sox batters. The only reason the Yankees incidents get more press is since its the Yankees... the blood is flowing between Boston and TB now.

Im starting to get sick of Schilling and his "Voice of reasoning"

It seems like everything that happens in MLB he has something to say about it.

I know hes the president of the association, but this is getting ridiculous when you think you can say anything about anyone at any given time. Maybe he forgot to give a little respect.

It's not like he is going out of his way to give his opinion. He has a weekly appearance on WEEI, the local sports radio station here in Boston. They obviously ask him questions about what goes on and he gives his honest opinion.

I dont think Schilling was out of line. He was probably asked that question and he answered it. Schilling was pissed and wants to protect his team because he felt they were mis treated by the Devil Rays. If what he say about the players not liking Lou is true I say they fire him. TB sucks man...

Why did he go to the Steroid Session in Congress? IMO Curt needs to lose a few pounds to take some stress off of his ankle before he starts talking crap about opposing managers.

Also why can the Red Sox hit other teams, but other teams can't hit the Red Sox.
Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.

The man has a huge mouth.... no question about it. He's been doing it for a long time.. he says things just so he can see the reaction of others.

And if he ever wears an Everquest II hat on TV again.... I don't know what I'm gonna do.

I've lost some respect for him ever since the Steroid Hearings. He seems to have changed a LOT in the last year or two. Who knows what's going on in this guys life, but he's a completely different person now.

Because he was forced to by Congress

I personally find Schilling entertaining. He says stuff from time to time that I think is stupid but for the most part I enjoy his press conferences and interviews on WEEI. Most athletes go on these shows and won't say anything remotely entertaining, just the same old sports cliches.

Exactly. At least he has an opinion, and says it.

I'd rather hear some of his more extreme opinions than more crap about "stepping up my game" and "putting it out on the field" ...

                        I think you are overreacting.

Also I had a grammatic question on something I noticed. Why is steroid hearing/session being capitalized like its a proper noun? Is this correct? If so, Ill start capitalizing it as well.

Now this I agree with. I thought it was shameful for him to back down on his stance against steroids and fall in line with the players union. MLB has been dying for some current influential players to step forward and really help fix the steroid problem. Schilling had perfect opportunity to be that guy.

It's pretty simple why he backed down. He doesn't want to be an outcast among his fellow players. I believe he was asked if he ever saw or knew a teammate that did steroids, and he said no.

Heck every single current player has said they have never seen a teammate do steroids before.

I hope the umps and MLB head office have a talk with the Rays and Red Sox before their next series. I'm afraid their bean war is going to get worse and somebody's going to get seriously hurt. Throwing at somebody's head like what Carter did to Ortiz should be an automatic min. 25 game suspension.

Or it could mean he has heard enough and knows enough that its highly likely in his mind that its true--that its a problem-- but in a legal environment, hes reluctant to dabble in speculation.
