Two 300 game winners on Friday

Maddux vs Clemens. Last matchup between 300 game winners was 1987. I didnt realize Clemens was off to such a good start. His ERA is 0.32. WOW. Maddux should have 2 wins. One was blown by LaTroy and the other on sloppy defense from the Mullet man Hollandsworth. Two of the best ever without a doubt. The Hall is waiting.

The Hall better be waiting, we might not ever see another 300 winner again.

Clemens' line will look like this:

      8IP, 0R, 4H, 2BB, 11K

and he'll get a no decision in a 1-0, extra inning loss. It's really gotta be discouraging to be performing like he is and have just one win to show for it.

He's playing the Cubs, remember that They got to him one time last year in Houston but he has pitched well against them the rest of the time. Hopefully they get to him again so Greg can start to get some wins to extend his streak.

There is no excuse in getting shutout 3 times in the last 5 games.. specially 2 in a row by Pitt... They must be wackin themselves in the head for not locking Beltran up

Maddux and Clemens are definitely two of the top three pitchers I've seen in my lifetime. (the other being Pedro Martinez) I still think you could argue for the two year stretches by Maddux in 94, 95 and Pedro in 99, 00 are the most dominant performances we'll ever see.

Id put Dwight Gooden in the mid 80s up there as well. He was incredible during that time. Id put Pedro up there too.

Doc's '85 season is right up there with Pedro and Maddux. He is tied with Clemens for 12th on the list of single season ERA+ leaders, a stat that measures the pitchers ERA vs the league ERA. (park adjusted) Pedro and Maddux have 2 seasons each that are in the top 10.

I always thought these were the best pitching seasons I have ever seen in my lifetime. He was amazing these two years. I am trying to remember if he was hurt becase he didnt have that many starts? Still amazing. I remember when he started game 1 of the NLDS in 1995 in Colorado and I remember seeing his ERA and was just amazed at how low it was. I think he gave up 4 runs that game, that also shocked me. But they won. Imangine saying "Ya my last 2 years I was 36-8 with an ERA of 1.60". Thats not even funny. Its even worse when i think of the uniform he was wearing. Go to hell Larry Himes & Tribune .

Just for kicks, here is the single season leaders in ERA+. ERA+ is determined by ERA+ = (Park Adjusted League ERA / Pitchers ERA) * 100

Five on the list were before 1915. This really puts into perspective how dominating Pedro and Maddux were in their primes. An ERA+ of 100 would equal the league average.

Oh man at first I got confused bnecause the time got mis-aligned a little and I was like what! Four Walks in one season, no way he was that good!

But anyhow those years his WHIP was .90 and .81. Geez, anything under 1.00 is amazing for a starter.

Maddux sure was fun to watch back in those days, he just made it look so easy, got hitter after hitter out only throwing a couple pitches and never getting very far in to the 90s. Remember when he used to throw like 88 pitch complete games? Amazing.

Cam:I agree with your Pedro assessment as well. Those stats are amazing. Thanks for posting them. I tend to give Maddux an edge because he didnt throw as hard. Both were and still are amazing no matter what their records are.

I'm looking forward to that Hudson and Mulder matchup. Especially when they go up to bat against eachother.
