what a GAME... Armando Blow-nitez- thank god you are not on the Mets anymore.. dude was barely hitting 90 on his FB.. two balks and a hot hitting Delgado (hey, who woke him up?? )..

what a night... Mets win, Yanks lose (once again)..

& Perez again had a good night ( 3 solo HR's given up, but 2 were in the 1st, one in the 7th)... Peterson a miracle worker??

Benitez was clearly having a meltdown out there on the mound... He almost looked like he wanted to cry after the game. It's funny, the first pitch he threw to Reyes that went way wide of the strike zone, I had a good feeling about the outcome, even though we were down. I guess being intimately familiar with Benitez' penchant for blown saves, I knew it was just a matter of time.

                    Check this out

Ollie has a 0.85 WHIP this season if you exclude that Philly game, 1.02 WHIP on the year.

Thank you Pittsburgh for giving up on Ollie!

I think I'd have been more surprised if he hadn't blown the save. That had to be right up there with classic Benitez meltdowns. I think if Delgado hadn't homered, D. Wright might have gotten one between the shoulderblades, like he did to Tino Martinez a few years ago, when he was pitching for the Orioles... That was one of the best baseball brawls I've ever seen.

I haven't seen a definitive replay yet on either SNY or ESPN on Benitez's balks. At regular speed it looks like he's just standing there motionless on the mound.

                            What exactly did he do?

The first one was really subtle to me. I didn't catch that. The 1st base ump called it, and he's known for being a massive nitpicker when it comes to calling balks. It may have been something really minor.

The 2nd one was fairly obvious. He was on the rubber, went into his motion, then stopped because he was worried about Reyes at third. At this point, he clearly *flinched* and went into the frozen position again. That is a balk, because he made a motion when he was in the "ready to pitch" position which was not the beginning of his pitching delivery.

To summarize, he pretty much $hit the bed.

As someone who lives in the Bay Area and has to listen to all the Giants flagship station hype and complaining etc. It was almost a given IMO that the Mets would win this game once Reyes got on base. The only real surprise was the extent that Armando blew up. I mean really, who balks twice in the last inning of a game with a chance to close it.
