One final note... from my buddies on "The Ticket" 1310 am sports radio...

Your two RBI leaders in the National League are:

    Carlos Lee & Adrian Gonzalez

Ugh. Not much else to say. Is it football season yet?

You know its bad when Cowboys mini-camp is over for a week, and its still getting more press than the Rangers.

Well, that was fun tonight. Sitting in section 114, called the Laird slam to my buddy, gotta love it when that happens. It was the Taco Bueno taco inning, too, but I never got my free taco coupon!!!!

We've hit a new low, and that's saying A LOT as a Rangers fan. The only team in the league that I honestly think is worse than us is Washington.

Re: Your 2007 Texas Rangers thread

Here's what you could be looking at:

                1B Gonzalez
                2B Kinsler
3B Blalock or Lowell (had the Beckett deal been completed)
                SS Young
                LF Lee/Cat
                CF Lofton
                RF Cruz
                DH Lee/Cat
C Laird/Barajas (would you still like Rod here?)

Beckett (had this deal been completed, here's your ace)
                Millwood
                Padilla
                Young
                Tejeda
Danks/Loe/? (Danks could be your 5th starter if he was still around, or could there be a top prospect here via a Tex trade?)

                What if?
I dont' think Hicks is that interested in shoveling out that kind of money again after ARod and Park. Beckett/Millwood/Padilla would command incredible money at the front of the rotation, though if we had aquired Beckett and kept Young it's highly unlikely we would have resigned Padilla (or signed Chen or Wright for that matter). I think our rotation would have resembled:
                Beckett
                Millwood
                Young
                Tejada
McCarthy (I still approve of the trade).

Still though you have 3 of those guys with ERAs over 5, and one of them (Millwood) over 6. Just assuming Beckett was pitching lights out for the Rangers instead and Young was pitching as well for us as he is for S.D. you're still only talking a 10 game difference likely and we'd still be 3.5 behind the Angels and a half game out of the wildcard. I just dont' know about this team... I really expected big things with some of the players but at the beginning of the season when I thought our pitching was holding up okay, our batting was terrible, and now that the bats are heating up we just can't pitch. I know that we're targetting Hunter in the offseason, but I fail to see how Hunter replacing Lofton fixes everything... and those young pitchers aren't developing very well. We've given guys like Volquez, Loe, and Tejada chances but really havent' gotten any returns. If I think about the guys who've gotten away from the Rangers since '95 it sickens me. Guys like Kevin Brown, Kenny Rogers, and to a lesser extent Doug Davis, and now Chris Young. We really need to evaluate our top tier pitchers better and make better decisions when it comes to retaining them.

Great article in the Dallas Morning News today about what Saber is talking about on retaining pitching. And I couldn't agree more.

This team is what it is today becuase of Tom Hicks and John Hart. I'm going to give Daniels a little more time before throwing him undet the bus as well.

Did I actually just see the Rangers score 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th?

Edit - They actually won it by scoring 4 in the 9th, holy ****.

I know.... that was crazy. Wasn't sure they were even interested in not getting shelled anymore.

10 of 15. And a winning record in June. 14 out of 26. I'll be satisfied if the Rangers can make up the 8 game difference, and just beat the Athletics in the standings this year.

11 of 16. Loe has been pitching lights out since coming back from the minors. Maybe with Hargrove stepping down in Seattle we have a chance to compete for 2nd in the division.

As we've passed the trade deadline, operation blow-up-the-team is at rest, and I couldn't be happier with what we've done. C.J. Wilson also looks to be a legitimate lefty closer.

Tex, although inconsistent, is a great hitter, and even though I hate to see him go, getting more than just Salty for him was an awesome job.

I don't know how much longer Young will be around. He's getting older, and he wasn't thrilled with the idea of starting over the team. If anyone deserves to play for a contender, it's Young.

BTW, it was interesting that Wilson struck out the newly-traded Lofton in the 10th to end the game tonight.
