Jason gets taken deep by Atkins, 1-0 Rockies.

He had zero veloscity on that "fastball."

Great, both Kemp and Schmidt are out.

Dodgers lose Kemp to a shoulder injury crashing in to the wall, and looks like they just lost Schmidt to a hammy injury covering first.

Yep, like I said they will be lucky to get a full year out of Jason! He is through in my book. He just doesn't have it any more. He still can win some games, because he knows how to pitch now, but still his Hammy as been a big problem last year too.

Keep in mind he's aging and is an innings eater, though I wouldn't call him "through" yet.

Inning eater now that is funny, he is lucky to pitch 5 innings! lol

In his career, Schmidt has crossed the 200 IP barrier five times. By definition, he is an innings-eater.

Of course only 3 times has he done it in the past 7 seasons. Also in that time span he's had under 30 starts every year but two. Hard to classify him as an innings eater.

But I think the question is, did the Dodgers pay him 15.5 million per year to chew up innings or be a staff ace who's a legit frontline starter?

It was more of a move to add depth to the starting rotation, if anything. Of course, the reason he was heavily paid was because of the inflated free agency market.

Dodgers win 2-1 over the Rockies.

Tomko pitched well, actually had a no-hitter heading into the 5th inning.

The Dodgers are tied with the Braves and Mets for the best record in baseball.

                            8-4.

San Diego is ridiculously easy to run on.

Penny is finally starting to pitch deep into games, albeit the defense saved him on a few plays.

Pitching, speed, and defense is getting the job done.
