First off that article is from someones personal blog not a newspaper of sports website.
Second you are right it is a joke it is not true at all, he is not dating Dusty's girl, never has!
It is great how people take a false rumor and run with it! Is this the National Enquirer!??
Was it Dusty who wanted to sign Corey? Yes. But it wasnt because he is dating Dusty's daughter!!! Come on people!
Dusty also wanted to sign Jerry Hairston and how did that work out??? Pretty good if you ask me!
By the way we should be applauding Dusty's work the last month of the season. The Reds had the 3rd best record in the majors since September 1st. And they had it with a bunch of nobody's or havent beens!

I don't think Dusty deserves to be applauded for a good record in September. Had the Reds not tanked the first two months of the season, it would mean more. But playing well in September when you're in last place means nothing.

You are exactly what is wrong with most Reds fans/Dusty bashers! Kill him when the team is losing and then blow it off when they are winning! What we saw is once the two slackers where traded Dusty actually got to manage. When Dunn and Griff where on the team they lead a group of lazy slackers. Dusty knew he couldnt push the team to play the right way because his two "big superstars" where lazy and didnt play the game hard. You cant run a team when your two biggest players are not going to listen to you.

And if you dont think playing well the last 6 weeks meant anything you know nothing about sports at all. The last 6 weeks will get the young guys that they where playing confidence going into next year. They had a great 5-6 week run playing a bunch of really young guys and playing the game the right way. I dont know how much you watched them the last 6 weeks but I am a season ticket holder and watched every game. They played the game the right way the last part of the season. They did all the little things like hustling, taking any extra base they could, moving runner overs, ect. ect. Dickerson playing left alone saved about a run a game. He got to so many balls that Dunn wouldnt have it wasnt even funny. This team had a whole new attitude at the end of the year!
But then again that had nothing to do with Dusty, as he only manages when they lose.

I'm sorry you disagree with with me. I think perhaps you've made a few assumptions based off some of my past posts.

I would've said the same thing about the team regardless if Dusty was the manager or if it was somebody else that I liked. And for the record, I liked Mackanin a lot and at the end of last season I still said that the team and players doing well in September meant little.

My point is that it's a lot easier to win in September with a bunch of rookies and call-ups than it is in April and May. Seeing all the younger players do well was great but the reality is that none of the opposing teams we played had any kind of book on these guys, whether it's their weaknesses at the plate or their deficiencies in the field or on the base paths. Winning it September when there's no expectations on you is a lot different than winning in the first two months of the season when everybody's healthy and knows your strengths and weaknesses.

I'm glad the team played well to end the season and I'm glad the Reds got a lot of young guys some major league experience. However, fielding the same team next season as we did the last few weeks won't translate to continued success. Most of these young players we played have limitations as players and their weakness will be exposed over a full 162 games if the Reds so choose to go that direction next year.

I know you can't understand how I can be so critical of a team that finished the season strong with a bunch of young players. But it is a double-edged sword. If we're going to celebrate Dusty for getting the team to win in September with a bunch of young guys, then we need to criticize him for how poorly the team played on the road all season. We also need to criticize him for how poorly the team played in the first two months of the season at a time when many thought the Reds could challenge for the wild card or at the very least finish above .500.

The Reds have been finishing up strong a lot the past couple years. You know, when they were already way too far away from a postseason appearance. And the one year (2006) when we were within striking distance of a playoff spot, we tanked late.

So no, I don't give a **** about playing well when it doesn't matter.

I suppose my main point was that with a good lineup, better relief pitching (including $40 mil man Francisco Cordero) and a veteran manager with playoff experience at each of his last two stops that the Reds were expected to do better than they did. Adding Wild Card into the discussion was a stretch, I agree, but there were people out there besides myself that thought it was at least a possibility.

sportsdude is right about some analyst saying the Reds could make a run at the WC, but I cannot confirm exactly who said it. But I do remember it being said as the season was about to begin.

As far as Dusty goes, I will applaud him when he puts together a winning season, something that hasn't been done in a long time. Sure the Reds played good the last month and sure they played bad the first two months. But I think next year is the true testiment to Dusty as a manager. He will have a full year without Wiffey and Dung. I always thought those two were the main problem with this team's attitude, so we will see if that holds true.

I am not a big fan of Dusty's and this year, especially early on, he made some crazy comments and seemed out of touch. But I am willing to look past this year as it wasn't his team and he had a severe lack of leadership. Next year if the Reds finish sub-.500 then I will say he hasn't brought anything extra to the table. If they finish OVER .500 then I will certainly give him his credit. I am also anxiously awaiting how Jocketty does this off-season. If the owners give him the check book, and he doesn't make a significant addition to the team without depleting it, then I will give him his fair credit of sucking.

So let's see next year. I may not be a fan of Dusty's but I am a fan of Cincy's and regardless of who is at the helm, I want them to freaking succeed for once. And I will give credit where credit is due once that happens.

He brought in quite of few big money guys to STL, McGwire, Edmonds, Rolen, and Renteria to name a few. They might have been brought in trough trades and not FA though.

I really think they are going to bring in a big time RH bat this offseason. They have the young prospects that teams really want. I would really love to see Matt Holiday playing LF for the Reds next year.

Aww, Bako was Cueto's personal catcher wasn't he? Oh well. Glad Patterson is gone. I'm rather interested to see what Jocketty does in the off-season.

Not sure if guys saw this in the Enquirer or not. Interesting read. Proof is there: it's all about the farm system.
