    Bah...

Litsch has come back to earth. Oh well, at least the kid is showing that he belongs in the show....as a 4th or 5th starter.

Man, we needed that shutdown inning and he just didn't provide it. Granted, the D didn't really help but if Litsch didn't put the guys on it wouldn't have mattered. Oh well, the way we've played for most of the season if we can win tomorrow and be just one game under .500 at the break I'll be satisfied.

        Nice start from AJ there.

At least we head into the break feeling good about ourselves. I bet on the off day (The Jays have an off day after the break) Cito will tell the players to act like it's the beginning of the year. Just wipe the slate clean and see what this team can accomplish.

Yeah, I really like the way the team played on the homestand and if they can keep it up heading into T-Bay we can close some ground on the division/wildcard and really bring some renewed hope for the longshot second half. I tell ya, today was the perfect illustration of the problem with AJ in that he was so dominant you would hate to give up an arm like that, but then you look at his last start where he gave up 7 runs to the O's and think that you can't get rid of him fast enough. One thing I really like is that he is always willing to help the team(bullpen appearance, short rest) and has an ability to let whatever else is happening around him just not bug him during the game. It will be interesting. If we can somehow get within 5 games of either the wildcard or division by the deadline I bet he stays.

Uh-oh, Doc says that if the team doesn't improve he may not stick around after his current deal is up in 2010. Sounds like he likes Cito so hopefully he stays around for one more to help the team get over the hump or else we may be going the route of the Indians...

We must be on the same wavelength as I was just going to post this!

I wouldn't exactly say he's going to leave if things don't improve but it's starting to get to that tipping point. I love Roy and what he's done in a Jays uniform but I also don't blame him for being discouraged. At least the point was made that Roy's not the "hired gun" type of guy and wants to win with a group he's been with but the mediocrity of this franchise is definitely wearing on him.

'09 and '10 are going to be HUGE years. I think Cito stays on but it all depends on who the new GM is going to be (If JP is fired) If the Jays can find the right guy to take over the club then maybe just maybe things will go better for this team. I'd love to see Roy win a WS ring with this organization but if he feels that his clock is running out and he needs to leave then I won't hold it against him.

I totally agree with you there. As much as it would be cool for anyone to be a "lifer" on the team that drafted them, if the team isn't getting the job done I wouldn't begrudge them wanting to move on eventually. I think that locking up Rios and Hill to long-term deals shows a commitment, but I think what happens with out prospects in a year or two will be huge. If guys like Snider, Arencibia, and Cecil can come in next year or in 2010 and make contributions I think that would be encouraging as well. It would also be huge if we can take the Frank Thomas $10 mill and actually do something with it.

This was me after Zobrist's HR...

                    "AH FRIG!"

I knew the game was over at that point. The Jays then give us all false hope in the next inning but crap the bed like they always do with RISP.

This team can't hit for crap.

Hmmm, makes me glad I went to go see Dark Knight instead...BTW looks like AJ is staying around for at least this year. "I don't see A.J. going anywhere," Toronto general manager J.P. Ricciardi said before the game. via TSN

                        Rios actually hit a HR!

Damn, that's sad that i'm mocking Rios after the season he had last year...Oh well.

Any of you guys listen to the Jays Talk at the end of the game last night? Wow it was FEISTY!

Anyways, this franchise is at a weird point in its history. Mel Queen has been brought back into the organization. JP denies it being more then just a minor roving pitching coach role but there are rumors that Queen has been brought back to evaluate the entire minor league system and to perhaps replace Arnsberg in '09.

Rob Ducey (remember him?) is also a scout with the team. (that's old news) but there's rumors that he's going to replace Dick Scott as the team's farm director.

Y'know, I have a feeling the Jays are going to clean house. Isn't Gillick's contract up with the Phils at the end of the year? I could very well see the current management thrown out the door and Rogers giving Gillick an offer he can't refuse. (spending as much money as he wants and having complete control) Even if they don't re-hire Gillick I have a feeling the club is going to go Back to the Future with the baseball ops and probably start scouting the carribean and latin areas again.

The Jays farm system looks much better now than a year ago.

Despite the terrible record, the Fisher Cats have a nice group of prospects in Snider, Cecil, Arencibia, Jeroloman, and Campbell.

The Lugnuts have 4 solid prospects in Jackson, Ahrens, Cooper, and Rzepczyski.

The only problem is that most scouts will tell you only Snider and maybe Jackson have the potential to be impact players.

Sooo....this is the Jays' MO. Play like crap for most of the year then start playing great baseball when there's no pressure and go on a hot streak at the same time as the Yankees...Now I see why we haven't been to the playoffs since '93.

Hmmm, I go away for a week and the team goes on a tear that I saw none of because ESPN refuses to even show Jays highlights on Sportscenter. Oh well, caught some of today's game and liked what I saw. Inglett is a big-time player, which is really good since it looks like Hill is done for the year. Also, Cecil got called up to AAA today as the rapid ascent continues.
