I can't believe the Jays released Reed Johnson. OK I know his stats last year weren't great but he was injured. The guy's a sparkplug for the team and I thought JP loved him. I mean he called him a dirtbag for crying out loud!

It'll be nice to see Stewart again but the moment he makes a poor throw in the outfield my nostalgia will turn to disgust. It seems to me JP is cheap. I mean the Jays have the money to spend but he'd rather go with the cheaper and inferior OFer. I hope Reed doesn't go to another AL team.

There's a report that the Jays are close to a 6 yr/65 mil deal for Rios that may be announced later today.

I was listening to Jeff Blair yesterday on PrimeTime and he was talking about how Frank Thomas is looking like he's lost a ton of bat speed and has progressively looked worse and worse this Spring Training. Interestingly enough he hit his first HR of the spring that night so maybe it's just him starting off slow.

Oh and Jesse Litsch was spectacular according to all reports as he no hit the Reds til the 7th inning.

I just read Toronto Star's sports media columnist Chris Zelkovich's latest and well...Rance Mullinks is a little cuckoo. He predicts the Jays to win the WS over the Mets. There's also a guy from XM radio who predicts the Jays will make the WS but lose to.........The Cubs!

At least the other analysts don't see them making the playoffs.

Have these guys forgotten that the Jays play in the AL East? I respect Rance's baseball IQ, but come on!

Also, who can believe that it has been fifteen years since Joe sealed the deal? And since then fifteen years without October baseball. Unreal. I remember being a young kid those championship years and my dad would let me stay up late every night and watch the games with him and we watched every game all the way to the world series. Amazing how long it's been. Can't imagine what it's like for Cubs fans!

On an unrelated note, what are the expectations people have for Doc this year? And what kind of year will the Jays have if he can get 20+ wins?

Jays make the playoffs if they get 110 starts out of their top 4. You heard it here first.

That's a big "if" considering one of their big 4 is AJ "i'm always on the DL" Burnett.

BTW I heard an absolutely ridiculous statement by an ESPN guy during their fantasy baseball special the other day. The guy was saying how scouts are saying that Roy Halladay is on a slow decline. OK, I know his K rate has gone down noticeably but he is still a very effective pitcher.

Ks don't make an ace folks.

However I do agree that in a couple years McGowan's gonna be the #1 here.

He's on a slow fantasy decline. Nothing else.

Although I don't see him putting up many more seasons like '03/'05. I think what he put up last year is going to be consistent with what we see for the next little while.

                          And 30 + 25 + 30 + 30 = 115. IMO that means playoffs.

Also these first six games are really important. From April 7th-August 15th, we have exactly 9 games with Boston and New York. So jumping out on them early is vital.

                            Projected starters for the week
Monday: Roy Halladay vs Chien-Ming Wang
Wednesday: A.J. Burnett vs Mike Mussina
Thursday: Dustin McGowan vs Phil Hughes
Friday: Tim Wakefield vs Shaun Marcum
Saturday: Clay Buchholz vs Jesse Litsch
Sunday: Daisuke Matsuzaka vs Roy Halladay

I really think we have the better starter in every game. Maybe not Saturday, but that's close.

It sucks that the opener got PPD. I heard that the weather is going to be worse tomorrow night so our season might not begin until Wednesday

i'm fairly upset about how the team has changed from last year to this year.

Reed!?!? --- big time fan favorite and a guy with lots of heart.

We had Glaus and got rid of him, and kept frank thomas? why?
mcdonal is an amazing ss, and glaus was pretty good defensively..he never screwed up from what i saw, and think he would have had a great year at the plate this year.

i don't think the team got better in the offseason, but got worse
