Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread

Padres come away with a victory today, 7-3. I guess that's to be expected with Zito on the mound.

Positives: First inning rally, Hairston, Giles, and a much-better-than-expected start from Shawn Hill.

Negatives: Nick Hundley's 2 K's, Luis Rodriguez's throwing error, allowing Zito to get in a groove after the first, rain.

They'll struggle to hit tomorrow against Jonathan Sanchez. Jake will probably pitch a gem too.

        Mind-boggling isn't it.

Don't worry, there's a bunch of sports experts scratching their heads now on how the Padres won 3 games already when we should've lost all 5.

The Padres are now above .500 for the first time since April 16th, 2008.

            Henry Blanco 2 gnats 1

Blanco goes deep twice and the second shot was more impressive than the first

Pitching duel over. Gonzo gets a bases loaded double to move them game to 5-1.

Headley joins in the fun with a 399 foot shot to CF. 6-1 Padres with 3 HR's in the game. Is this Petco?

Blanco is 3 for 3 now.

I actually had my doubts with how Jonathan Sanchez was just mowing these guys down early on.

They kept fighting and stopped striking out, got a couple of runs for Peavy and everything was academic there. I'm surprised they were letting Peavy go for a complete game.

When he gave up the lead off double in the 9th, I thought they would pull him, but hindsight is 20/20, right? He still got the win, and Bell is 3 for 3 in save opportunities.

Tomorrow will be interesting. Lincecum had a rough first outing, and CY looked sharp. Could be a pretty fast, low scoring game.

Nice catch in foul territory by Giles in the 8th. Surprised he did not get injured. All around a good game for the home team.

How bout that catch from Giles? Just saw the highlight reel, and he really had to go after that with everything he had!

Thanks to MLB network, actually got to see Gonzo get the bases clearing double, live.

Rags, when I get time this week, I'll post about my conversation yesterday afternoon with the Padres Director or Corp. Communications about the TV deal.

Barring a disastrous final two innings (which isn't unheard of), the Padres are off to a 5-2 start, and lead the NL West.

This should be an interesting road trip coming up. I expect to take one game against the Mets (we have Silva, Correia, and Hill going). If they go above .500 on this road trip, I'd be surprised.

Great series out of the Padres against the Giants. Pitching and offense were both present.

Positives: Nick Hundley going 4-4, Headley's home run, CY's 7 strong innings, Luis Rodriguez 2 BBs and 2 SFs (he now has 7 walks to 1 strikeout).

Negatives: Giles 0-5, Headley's bobble in left.

For a guy who is said to struggle at the plate, he's off to a solid start. Then again, so is Cabrera who is also supposed to struggle. SS seems like it's set. They may not be All-Star candidates, but better than what we expected.
