Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
Arturo Lopez was just claimed off waivers, so that clears up room in the 40-man roster for Blanks. It's still unclear what roster move will be done to get him on the 25-man roster, but this is the list of possibilities:
Floyd is probably heading back to the DL.
Giles being released.
A trade is in the works.
As for Cabrera, I bet Josh Wilson will be waived and sent down or released.Comment

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
Lopez and Wilson were claimed off waivers by the Mets and Mariners, respectively.
Nick Hundley is also going to the disabled list because of the wrist injury suffered a week ago. Eliezer Alfonzo is on the move along with Cabrera and Blanks.
I expect more roster moves the net couple of days. Jeez, all this editing. What a mess.Comment

Yep, today's transactions list is a mess. It took me a while to sort out everything for the first post.
I don't know when Giles will get released. He's played so poorly that no one will want him, especially at the amount he's owed.Comment

Walter Silva is back, Mike Ekstrom was optioned back to Portland.
The Eugene Emeralds roster is set and they'll be playing their first game today.Comment

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
Ugly series with the Astros. Is there anyone in baseball with a worst-starting rotation and with a worst runners in scoring position average?
Kyle Blanks hasn't looked to hot at the plate. I still think he should be Portland right now getting his at-bats. As for Venable, even though he doesn't project to be anything more than a AAAA player, the Padres stymied whatever progress he would've had by calling him up and having him ride the bench for a long time. Based on Venable's interview yesterday before the game, it makes me question the philosophy of this organization. He basically stated how he's been trying to find his swing (he was one of the hottest hitters in AAA when he was called up) and how the organization wanted him to put on more weight and hit for more power, causing him to lose some speed and be less of a gap-hitter.
Bottomline, with Blanks and Venable both being called up with no position to play, I think they're both perfect examples of the Padres patented mismanagement with young players. Oh yeah, and let's not forget they've waited until the last minute to experiment and see if they could get their positional prospects to try another position right before knocking on the door to the majors.
It's going to be a long 2009 season. Especially since they have failed to deal Peavy, who most likely will remain on the disabled list through the trading deadline.Comment

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
Padres trade Hairston to A's
The Padres have traded outfielder Scott Hairston to the Oakland Athletics for two minor league players and a player to be announced later.
Hairston, 29, is hitting .299 (59-for-197) this season with 10 home runs.
Well our pathetic "offense" just got worse, the only positive is it creates an opening in the outfield, now if we can just find a sucker erm taker for kos and giles.Comment

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
Sean Gallagher will be the PTBNL in the Hairston trade.
While I think Hairston is a good ballplayer, there's a reason why the D'Backs gave him up for a relief pitcher. I'm not sure if he can keep it up, but the A's got one hell of a player that's for sure. However, it says a lot about how bad our outfield production is if Hairston was our best outfield bat.
Kouz and Bell are probably next in line on the trading block. Hell, I wouldn't care if the Padres traded Adrian, since he would net a lot back.
Time to update the roster. I've been slacking.Comment

Congrats to Mat Latos on his first career major league victory. Hopefully Tim Stauffer can keep up what he's been doing this whole year. He seems to be back with a chip on his shoulder after not being considered at all and being made a reliever to start the year.Comment

Peavy went to the White Sox in exchange for 4 pitchers (Poreda, Richard, Carter, and Russell).

Sucks for the Padres, but they aren't going anywhere. Sucks worse for Peavy. He'll get eating alive in that park.Through music, you can live forever...TEAMS: San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, Notre Dame Fighting IrishComment

Drinkin the koolaide again to make it seem not as bad as it is.
Worst team in the league.. This team is a disgrace and an embarrassment to the city.
Petco park sure turned out to be a good investment didn't it? This was the kind of thing that was supposed to be a thing of the past if we built a new stadium.
1993 all over again. Only a matter of time till Adrian is gone. Maybe they should call the Braves and see if Melvin Nieves is available again.Last edited by bkrich83; 07-31-2009, 05:18 PM.Comment

As for Bell and Adrian, I'd be surprised if both of them stay in uniform through tonight.
Meanwhile, Towers announces that Richard will be making his first start as a Padre tomorrow night.Through music, you can live forever...TEAMS: San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, Notre Dame Fighting IrishComment
