I think a lot of guys are expecting us to get a stud bat out of Lowe. If we trade Lowe off, it will be for financial reasons and when we're unloading such a huge contract for someone who had a down year (remember, trades are often on a 'what have you done for me lately' value) we should not expect much at all.

And for the record, Nady is a low risk/high reward type of bat, but I really think he was over-rated before he got injured anyways...

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Not saying a lot of people here, but from what I'm reading in Braves forums and blogs, in general. There's a discussion going on between some people in the ChopNation that someone believes we can ship off Derek Lowe and a prospect to Tampa for BJ Upton or to Houston for Hunter Pence... lol, not gonna happen.

I don't think that will happen at all. But if we deal him, we are either acquiring an impact bat in that or another deal and/or signing an impact bat. Any/all of those options sound good to me.

As I've said all along, if someone takes his entire salary and we get even just 10 bats I'll be thrilled.

I'm loving the potential Lackey to Boston move. That should get the ball rolling on a Lowe deal once Lackey is off the market.

What I want to know is why didn't we make an attempt to keep Adam LaRoche in Atlanta? He's done a solid job with all his time in Atlanta. He has some pop & is a great defensive 1st baseman. I don't get it. Who in the heck are we gonna get that's better?

We can get him cheaper than most other big bat 1B. His salary demand is somewhere between the $5-$8 million range per year. I'm baffled as to why we didn't make an offer to him before he filed for FA. We seem cheap too often for getting good players. He's the best fit in Atlanta & Chipper is his best friend too. They own a hunting range together in Texas.

John Paul Morosi of Fox Sports says that Atlanta isn't set on only getting a RH OFer back for Lowe and would take prospects. (I assume we would flip some or all of those for a power bat)

He listed Brewers, Angels, Yankees, Mets and Orioles as potential suitors.

If we can get some prospects, they are already loaded, so it would be an easily trade to flip him.

LaRoche wanted arbitration and the Braves didn't want to pay that much. They think that they can sign him for less than that in FA. He is the top 1B available though, so we will see.

OK! I don't see us getting him from the FA market now. I hope we can because he's the perfect fit for us in Atlanta. He plays great defense & can hit with power & last year had a decent average. We got to consider making a run for him before some other team makes a claim. Who can we get to replace him really?

I believe they're really hoping Freedie Freeman can win the job outright in spring traning.

Maybe so but Freeman is still a year away so we will most likely see him sometime in 2011.

Freddie Freeman for the 2010 season as our regular 1st baseman? He's still at least a year away from even being considered our starting 1st baseman. LaRoche is the guy we need to have there at 1B with a veteran team pretty uch now.

Now, you can make the claim that Jason Heyward is gonna make a claim for a spot on the roster for the 2010 season though.
