I think 2012 they can become relevant, enough time to see if Latos, Poreda, Gallagher, Inman, Cabrera, Blanks, Venable, and any other youngsters can stick and develop and if the Padres can retain Adrian Gonzalez (Rumor has it that if he signs an extension, the right field walls at PETCO Park will be adjusted).

One move I'd like to see the Padres do make is trading Heath Bell while his value is high as a reliever. Closers are not needed on teams that have no shot at winning it all and I think Mike Adams, Luke Gregerson, or Edward Mujica are more than capable of stepping up.
See the S.D. thread, don't want to turn this one into a pads discussion.

Pitchers hitting continue to hurt the Giants...amazing.

Looks like another Cy Young worthy start for a Giants opposing pitcher is in the works!

Why do stupid fans always have the seats near the field of play? And of course the Giants cannot do something to make the fan's error moot.

Giants keep finding new ways to shoot themselves in the foot...they could easily be adding more runs like the Dodgers did the first two games but they keep wasting the opportunities...im just waiting for the Dodgers to break through and come back.

i hope the giants keep torres in centre for the series against colorado. rowand is doing absolutely nothing at the plate and torres brings so much more to the offense with his speed and he plays as good in the field as well.

We are not mathematically out of it yet. It will take a nice sweep of the Rockies again and putting them into a slump for us to take the wild card. Over the weekend we let Atlanta and Florida catch up with us. It was hard enough catching the Rockies now we have to worry about some East Teams.

In all honestly our pitching will have to take us to the playoffs, but our offense just doesn't stand up to the Elite teams. When you have 4 pitchers with sub 2 era's in August and only a handful of wins, what can you really expect. It is fun baseball right now, and it's cool to dream but realistically it's all uphill.

This is what I don't get. NL West really gets no love, but yet every year the Wild Card comes from out here.

And I agree with the 4 team race. We really are one big bat away from seriously competing and maybe a leadoff hitter. And our whole rotation, I think, is the best in baseball. This year was just kicking the tires.

Arizona was really hurt by Webb's injury. Haren and Webb. Upton, Reynolds and Drew. That's a playoff team.

Dodgers. Hands down scariest lineup in the West and that's without Manny. Billingsley reminds me of Cain, before this year. Kershaw is your other stud. So that's a good 1-2 punch.

Rockies. Continue to surprise me. The team was there, but I thought Holliday leaving was going to hurt them. Whoops.

Padres. I like that they are playing well and Gonzales is the most under rated 1st baseman in the league. That divorce destroyed this team though.

Hopefully it will not matter but why did they not pinch run for Molina in the 8th? Torres easily could have scored from 3rd and we have Whiteside or Posey to catch the 9th. EDIT: I guess because of the big inning they decided to go ahead and put Whiteside in. Cost Rowand a sac fly by not subbing for Molina as a runner.

Timmy needs to win every one of his starts to have a chance at the Cy Young.

                    Good job Velez!

Also I like how Sandoval was the only starter to do nothing at the plate. Even Timmy had a walk and sac bunt. Panda needs a break.

I went to the game last night. The place was rocking again. The crowd was on their feet for every two-strike Lincecum had, and showed the same love from Affeldt. The last two games we drew walks. There is something to that working the count thing.

I sat three rows from the visitors bullpen mound. It was first time I was there, and it won't be my last. Poor Matt "Herpes" Herges. He got heckled bad when he was warming up. The cool part is none of the hecklers were obnoxious. There were no just "You suck" heckles. That section got on them for everything, and they were intelligent hecklers. Half the time we're laughing, the other times were are making the beeep...booooop sound effects. Try to get those seats if you can, I recommend it.

Oh yeah... that Pablo Sandoval liner to that section was about a foot away from my glove on the first hop. I heard the sizzle...scary.

If you ever see a foul ball don't get it. Sure they are great too have I guess, but they can really hurt. So if you have glove maybe you can go for it, but be careful. You can buy a real baseball for $5.

I had a glove. If I had a beer and a glove, I would have ducked. The ball ain't worth it. I was actually scared that someone in front of us was going to get a piece of it and have it ricochet to my face.

It's amazing how stagnant our offense gets when Cain pitches...Cain is so good he shuts down both lineups.

Game is over now the way our bats are goin.

I have no confidence in Sandoval whatsoever...he is struggling.

It's funny how many things the Giants can do wrong in a single game.

It is the pitcher he is doing great. But situational hitting is what kills this team. Cain has giving up 2 2 run HR, is losing this game tonight for that.

Tulo's was a solo homer and then Barmes hit an rbi double then stewart hit a 2 run homer.

Not that it will matter cuz the Giants suck but why the heck would they pinch run Molina with Whiteside and not one of our other bench players like Winn or Velez or anyone?

Wow the Giants are pathetic with runners in scoring position. Schierholtz should lose playing time for that swing alone. They had their chance but the season is over now. Good pitching by De la Rosa and Betancourt.
