I'd just like to point out how awesome our bullpen is, and how I look forward to watching them shut down other teams at the end of games.

Boston Red Sox 2009 warm-ups songs question
Hello,
Can anybody help me out here? I went to 2 Sox games this year, and I am trying to locate the song that is played when Ramon Ramirez comes in from the bullpen. I sent a question to the team, to no avail...
The song starts out with a drum beat, and the refrain goes something like this ..."bring the beat". It has a pop/rap sound to it, and I think it is fairly new.
If anyone has been to the Park this year and knows who sings that song, I would greatly appreciate it. f anybody can point me to a person in the Red Sox organization who operates the sounds system, I would GREATLY appreciate that.Comment

Re: 2009 Boston Red Sox
This could get interesting when Daisuke is healthy. If Masterson continues to excel in the rotation, does Francona put him back in the 'pen or do the Sox wave bye bye to Brad Penny? Penny's velocity has looked fine in his four starts, but the results have not been. The Red Sox are 3-1 and a lot of last night can be pegged on the defense, but his command has been spotty at best and I question his ability to pitch through the 6th inning on a consistent basis. And if Masterson is performing well, how can one justify banishing him to the 'pen? I have maintained my stance that Masterson is better served in the bullpen because I question his ability to consistently get lefties out but he's done a fair job of it so far. The Yankees only threw 2 right-handed hitters at him on Sunday and he pitched well. And better yet, he hasn't allowed a homerun yet after allowing 10 in just 88 innings last year.
Either way, if Penny is still in the rotation and pitching like a fifth starter he'll be screwed once Smoltz is ready to step in. I can't see the Red Sox asking Wakefield to move to the bullpen out of loyalty, and if everyone else is healthy there is no way Beckett, Lester, or Matsuzaka is coming out of the rotation. Penny could either be cut or traded.
Long term though, say Masterson is a success in the rotation and either one (or both) of Bowden or Buchholz dominates at Triple A who's the odd man out in 2010? Wakefield can pitch seemingly forever, and you know what you're going to get (12-15 wins, 4.20 ERA or so, and some really hot streaks and really cold ones) at a very reasonable 4 million a year so would they ever consider releasing him? Obviously one day that will come, but is it possible the team would just assume let Beckett walk after 2010 (which seems likely considering the price of starting pitching and his inconsistency)? Lately I've started to wonder if perhaps Daisuke could be traded. He has shown in his two years so far that he's not the horse he was touted to be and he isn't an ace. At a reasonable 8 million or so a year he could be attractive to other teams. It would be a gamble to trade someone of his caliber to make way for an unproven arm but when Daisuke comes back this year if he's the Daisuke of last year (struggles to get past the fifth inning and consistently wares out the pen and the patience of his manager) I think the Red Sox would start to consider just that. Needless to say, it isn't a bad problem to have when Matsuzaka is potentially your weakest link.Last edited by Misfit; 04-29-2009, 06:12 PM.Comment

Congrats to Jonathan Van Every! I have his bat from his A Ball days at the Lake County Captains, and an autograph on it.
Good guy!Comment

Re: 2009 Boston Red Sox
This Red Sox bullpen has been awesome. The rotation however, has not been. Beckett has had one good start, Lester two. Really, only Wakefield has pitched great (really great) and Masterson's first start was solid. Beckett's command has been awful, and Lester seems to have a hard time keeping the ball down at times and really doesn't change speeds all that well. The stuff has been there for both guys but it's getting really frustrating watching these guys struggle. At least when Lester has been less than stellar he has been able to get through the 6th, unlike Beckett who is making a habit of blowing out the bullpen every fifth day.Comment

Re: 2009 Boston Red Sox
Sad to hear about Remy and his bout with cancer. I hope he comes back just fine. It sounds like his operation was a success and he's now cancer free but you never with that stuff. I know some are hating on him, but I've actually enjoyed Eck in the booth. He's incredibly direct and it brings humor to the game. I think he would be best served as the third guy in a three-man booth but I've liked him so far. It sounds like he'll only be doing home games and maybe some of the closer road contests in Remy's absence. Red Sox hero Dave Roberts will be joining Orsillo for the next west coast trip after this homestand.Comment

Re: 2009 Boston Red Sox
If by Becks you mean Beckett, then yes. He's actually been below sub-par in many of his starts so far this year. Aside from his first start of the year, he has not pitched at all like an ace and unfortunately neither has Lester. If not for Wakefield's fantastic start, this rotation would look like the worst in the AL, statistically speaking.Comment

Re: 2009 Boston Red Sox
Wow what an enjoyable Sunday night game, tight there till the last and as much as I hate to admit it, it was great seeing Big Papi hit that double. Paps was lights out there when he needed to be. LMAO at Joe Morgan's remarks when Papelbon did his celebration after striking out Crawford Morgan- "I'm not sure what that was"Comment

It's time for Buchholz. Hes been pitching great and just took a perfect game in for Pawtucket into the 9th inning.
