2012 Atlanta Braves thread
Happy New Year fellow Bravos fans! We kick off a new year and thread looking for bigger and better things in 2012. The Braves are starting the year on a sad note:
Longtime Braves trainer Jeff Porter's wife was killed in a car accident yesterday. Porter has been with Atlanta as long as I can remember and I've always liked him...condolences to his family during this tragedy."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. Re: 2012 Atlanta Braves thread
Terrible news about Porter's wife.. what a crazy accident.
As far as the Braves go, I don't think we're going to see much more than a backup SS this off season.
We could still see a Jurrjens/Prado trade, but I don't get the impression that Wren is going to trade either player for the sake of trading. And that's a good thing, imo.
We'll be good enough to compete for the Wild Card, but I'm not bursting with optimism at this point. That being said, March 3rd is already marked on the calender. Now, more than ever -

Re: 2012 Atlanta Braves thread
Seth Smith for Prado trade won't go away, even though it is still a rumor. It won't be a straight up trade, the Braves are rumored to want a CF prospect and 1 more player or cash. Smith is a lot cheaper, but unless they think they can get a replacement at CF, I wouldn't do it.Comment

Re: 2012 Atlanta Braves thread
It makes even less sense when you consider the comments Wren makes to the public. Something like "we are only going to make a move if it makes us better"
Replacing Prado with Smith in the everyday lineup does not do that. Adding a good prospect is always nice, but are they thinking that they can't re-sign Bourne?
This is a team that when it was moderately healthy had the 2nd best record in the NL at one point. It's young and can compete right now. So I don't see why there is this fascination with that trade. It would save some money, but where are they planning on spending it?Comment

Re: 2012 Atlanta Braves thread
I don't think we have to worry about a Smith/Prado deal. Beat writers are bored and looking for anything to grasp onto this time of year.
I think Wren has made it pretty clear that neither Prado or Jurrjens will be traded for anything less than a fair return. And one that provides an upgrade at that..
Speaking of which, I've been hearing some chatter on a trade for Maicer Izturis. Apparently the Angels are looking for someone like a Cristhian Martinez.
I'd be all for that. There is a very real possibility that Pastronicky won't be ready, and Izturis would at least be an upgrade over AGon(and probably Pastronicky too.. at this point).
Get Izturis, then replace Diaz's roster spot with Cody Ross, and I'd be a pretty happy camper going into spring training.
Hop to it Wren. Now, more than everComment

The Braves have signed Jack Wilson to a 1 yr deal worth 1 Mil. Looks like we got our backup SS.Last edited by Kohlstar20; 01-13-2012, 08:55 PM.Comment

Re: 2012 Atlanta Braves thread
What a worthless signing. Can the man pick it? Yes...but I think anyone of our pitchers can hit better than he can. Just what our inept offense needs on the bench."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Don't remind me. I was pissed when me made that error...fielding is ALL he's good for and he can't get that right? Yup, just what we need to bring back."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Re: 2012 Atlanta Braves thread
Boras is his agent and the Braves don't have a good relationship there. Boras has made some comments that he should be the highest paid CF/OF as in todays game, defense and speed guys who can hit are worth more. Its safe to say, unless he tanks, he won't be a Brave after the year.Comment

I definitely like 'em. Hate the blues. Would have liked powder blues though.
Still nothing better than the regular home/road jerseys, in my opinion.Comment
