I am proud to say that we're actually looking like a competitive ball club again.

    Hell yeah!

I've been working down in Central Iowa, so I haven't gotten to watch any games lately, but, from what I've seen in box scores, etc, the huge positives I'm seeing are:

      1) Liriano is pitching lights out lately. 1 ER in his last 13 innings. Not bad.

      2) The staff as a whole looks a lot better. Blackburn gave up 2 tonight in 5 innings, which isn't good, but it's not as bad as he was pitching before his DL stay (he was on the DL, right?).

      3. The bats are firing up again. Morneau looks like old Morneau. If he keeps going at this pace he'll be hitting for 30 and 93 (ish).

So I'm excited to see if they can perhaps threaten the .500 mark, or maybe even contend for a wild card spot (okay, that last one is pretty wishful thinking), but at the very least, I feel like they could make my original prediction of 70 wins.

Maybe if we had 1 Ace we could be a playoff team

We're looking very promising as of late.

Liriano pitched well again last night. Only made really one mistake. It was a pretty big mistake, but that start was still a huge step in the right direction. Wish we had a better closer than Capps though

Anyone else think it's about time to show Gardenhire the door? Something about the way he reacted to that extra inning loss a week ago against the Tribe just rubbed me the wrong way. He called it "a bummer" and just looked defeated.

I'm about tired of the "aw shucks" attitude this team has had over the past couple years. It might be time for some new coaching blood.

Even if the team were to magically add the pitching it would need to contend next year, don't we already know what that will lead to?

                  Thoughts?

They need more than new coaching blood. That entire organization is stagnating from the top down. No new people, no new ideas, no one to challenge the status quo. They just keep recycling the same **** over and over and over and over.

Bill Smith is terrible as a GM? Reassign him. Scott Ullger is a terrible hitting coach? Put him at 3rd. Oh, he's a terrible 3rd base coach? Make him the bench coach! Wayne Krivsky left, then stunk as a GM? Bring him back. And on, and on, and on.

A book could be written about their disdain for and limited usage of statistical analysis (ties right in with the stagnation).

It won't matter if they make a change in the dugout (in the long run) if they don't start accepting new ideas at the top.
