    Re: 2014 Blue Jays

I wonder if the Reyes injury and Goins lack of hitting would make the Jays a candidate to sign Stephen Drew. They do have the $14 M they didn't spend on Santana.

Drew could play SS while Reyes is hurt and could move to second when he comes back.

Yep a bit of a slip....I'd LOVE to see Aaron Sanchez on the big league roster. Everybody says how he doesn't have secondary pitches and doesn't have enough control etc etc. but to me his STUFF is good enough to overcome that. There are a lot of young MLB SPs who are living off of stuff. He can learn the secondary stuff as he goes along damnit.

        How about Kratz though?

Feels like our "ace" is a poor man's Tim Wakefield.

          Re: 2014 Blue Jays

Why exactly is this Thursdays game airing on Sportsnet 360 when it's already airing on the regional channels at the same time? Seems real pointless to air it on 2 different channels. I honestly don't think a single viewer would be watching SN360s coverage of the game because SN360 has that 24/7 ticker which causes the screen resolution of the broadcast to be distorted.

I'm just hoping the feed doesn't cut out. Here's hoping Hutchison can have a good start tonight.

BTW to just rub in how bad things are going Hechevarria (sp) was 3-4 in the Marlins game and Yan Gomes looks like he's going to be Cleveland's catcher for the next few years.

AA's looking dumber by the day especially when you consider the Halladay deal has turned into a bust.

Sportsnet 360 is a HD channel. I don't believe the regional channels are in HD. At least they're not in HD on the cable system I have.

It's just your cable system. Basically every channel is HD today.......Would it really make any sense at all for a big name sports network that airs MLB,NBA,NHL,NFL games to not have a HD feed?

Just find it stupid they're airing the game on Sportsnet AND SN360 when SN360 has an obligation to air another show during this time but aren't airing it because they're airing a MLB game which is already airing on another Sportsnet channel.

Also...Argos will be moving to BMO Field now! City approved giving $10M for expansion of BMO Field and one of conditions was so it could accommodate the Argos. 2017 was Argos last season at Rogers Centre anyways, but with the expansion being approved now...who knows how much sooner it could be! Best scenario would obviously be 2014 being Argos last season there.

They just need to add 5,000 or so seats to accommodate the Argos, so that really doesn't sound like it'd take much time at all. Hopefully it does get done by end of 2014 so we can have 2015 Jays with real grass!

                    Re: 2014 Blue Jays

Starting Pitcher: Bob Feller (9 IP, 8K, 5BB), 1940 Cleveland Indians

Feller is the only pitcher to throw a no-hitter on Opening Day; Feller's came in 1940 at Comiskey Park, Chicago as he no hit the White Sox (Gee, Indians no-hitting the White Sox. I think there's a supreme court ruling against that... or at least General Custer rolling over in his grave), who went 82-72 that year (.532). The Sox Opening Day lineup included HOFer Luke Appling (SS).

Honourable Mention: Tom Seaver, 16 GS

Catcher: Booooo catchers. Name any suggestions.

First Base: Dmitri Young (4-4, 3HR, 5RBI), 2005 Detroit Tigers

Young was the third player to hit three home runs on opening day, in the 11-2 win over Kansas City. He hit two of his homers of Jose Lima and one off Gill MacDougal. Young is the older brother of Delmon Young.

Second Base: Jackie Robinson (I think 0-3, R), 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers

Arguably the most important moment in baseball history. Easily the most important Opening Day moment.

Third Base: Vinnie Castilla (3-5, 2HR, 5RBI), 1998 Colorado Rockies

Castilla is the guy that ruined the Arizona Diamondbacks' debut. Castilla led the Rockies to a 9-2 thumping of the new expansion team behind two homeruns and five RBI. Castilla would become the last inaugural member of the 1993 Colorado Rockies expansion team when he retired in 2007.

Left Field: George Bell (4-5, 3HR), 1988 Toronto Blue Jays

Bell was the second man to hit three homeruns on Opening Day, all of of Kansas City ace Bret Saberhagen (second time KC gave up 3 HRs). Bell's Opening Day outburst followed a 1987 MVP-winning season.

Honourable Mention: Hank Aaron, 714th career home run (1974)

Center Field: Karl "Tuffy" Rhodes (4-4, 3HR, 3RBI), 1994 Chicago Cubs

Rhodes became the first player to hit three homeruns on opening day—against former ace Dwight Gooden. He became a star in Japan, tying Sadaharu Oh's record of 55 homeruns and one of 3 foreign players granted free agency in the NBL. This is a guy who only had 250+ AB's in one season.

Right Field: Jason Heyward (2-5, HR, 4R, 4RBI) 2010 Atlanta Braves

Heyward's first career at-bat ended with the ball 447 feet from home plate, 387 feet from Carlos Zambrano. Heyward's monster day helped a winning cause, but so far he hasn't lived up to the momentous expectations.

                    George Bell! Jorge Bell!!

Halladay gonna be throwing out first pitch tonight! Can't wait for that! Finally back in Toronto again. I remember when he made his first appearance at Rogers Centre as a visitor, I think more fans were cheering for Halladay than the Jays that day. Coolest moment was Halladay vs Bautista(face of franchise from the past vs face of franchise in the present).

Hope they add him to level of excellence soon. Really want to go to that game whenever it is.

I'm sure Doc will be on the Level of Excellence as early as next year though if i'm the Blue Jays I wait til he gets to Cooperstown. I honestly can't see him waiting too long once he's eligible.

Anywho, some interesting news came out this morning regarding the whole Santana fiasco. Apparently several Jays players were willing to defer money to get Santana signed and he DID agree to terms but as soon Medlen went down for the Braves Santana ran off to Atlanta.

Halladay probably could have pitched a better game than McGowan on Friday.

Hopefully they get back on track against the Astros this week.

When is Toronto's love affair with Brett Lawrie going to end? He's cheered more than any other Blue Jays but he continues to confound with his terrible hitting.

He was 1 for 4 on Sunday (raising his average to .120) but what's more troubling to me is he saw a total of nine pitches. Grounded out on the first pitch he saw in the second and popped up on the second pitch he saw in his second at bat.

I think Lawrie is going to be a long term project for Seitzer. (who I personally like A LOT and if Gibbons is indeed canned i hope they give the manager job to him) You can see Lawrie buying into some of the things that Seitzer is preaching by trying to hit the ball to the middle of the field or the other way. He just needs to calm down a bit (and he has, at least physically) and wait out a good pitch to hit.

It's interesting how on this homestand we've seen two SP have issues with McGowan tipping his pitches and Hutchison not getting his arm in the right slot. These are issues that can be easily rectified so I hope Pete Walker works on it with those two. Already the bullpen is being taxed a bit so we need to see our starters go through at least one turn through the rotation where they don't have to go to the pen too early.
