    Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves

If Perez can handle CF longterm, he might be pretty good. But if he is in the corners, it's a no. There's already way too many light hitting players, and there's no real power that I can see in the system. No one in triple A has hit more than 3 hr. Outside of Freddie, Markakis, Simmons, and maybe Maybin if he can keep this up, I think you have to assume a lot of the field positions are going to be filled externally going forward.

I know nothing about him other than he was Arizona's #5 prospect. Not a bad trade imo to give up a utility guy for a decent prospect.

The consensus seems to be that we fleeced the D'Backs. We took on Arroyo's contract (about $10M with the buyout) to get Toussaint.

He's got a career 5.72 ERA in the minors, but 3.69 this year in A ball. Like a lot of our young pitchers, it looks like he's got some control issues. He's walked 15 in 39 innings.

The upside is worth it though. I don't think Gosselin is ever going to be more than a utility guy. Got to figure at some point though, with all the young pitchers we have, that we're going to start dealing for some positional depth.

Yeah at this point the Braves will need to create another team if all the pitchers drafted sign. Hopefully they get back to the point where they always had pitchers that other teams wanted to trade for. It doesn't appear that they are looking at the position players much.

But the thing to keep in mind with Arroyo is that half of his salary has been paid this year. Once he heals from TJ surgery, he could provide help in both the rotation or bullpen, wherever needed. Overall, I believe this trade will be one of the Braves best on the season if Arroyo heals right and Touki develops into the front-line starter like many predict him to be. I'm excited to see how the Braves will look in the next 2 years!

                Nice username!

We still owe Arroyo about $5.5M this year, and his buyout next year is $4.5M, so that's where I got the $10M from. He's not due back until August, so I don't know how much he'll actually help.

What is the deal with the Braves 3B Chris Johnson and the organization? Did that damn Arizona deal that Frank Wren made? How bad did it hurt us? I am speaking of the Prado & Delgado for J-UP & Chris Johnson.

So we go into the biggest series of the year so far without our best hitter. Hopefully the rest of the guys can pick up the slack.

It was a decent deal. Upton was very good for us, Johnson was very good for a year, okay for a year, and terrible this year.

it was the contract that was the problem, not the trade

I have no issues at all with the J Upton trade from a few years ago, and still don't understand the hate that Chris Johnson receives. I'm not a fan of his attitude, but he has been an effective 3rd basemen for us. He nearly won the batting title in 2013, he took a huge step back in 2014 compared to the prior year but was still one of the most consistent hitters on the team. He was doing fine this year until his injury, granted he has not been good since coming back. There has to be someone to play 3rd for this team, he has not been bad, and he is not breaking the bank to keep him on the roster.

That sweep should end it for everyone right?

End what? Not surprising...this team isn't very good, especially without its best hitter. I expected 75 wins this year and we need to go 40-49 the rest of the way to match that. They are still fun to watch on most nights...today was frustrating because the defense didn't help Wisler at all.
