Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
Great players very often make terrible coaches. It's an incredibly different skill set.

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
Smoltz is doing pretty well with broadcasting. He's got a bright future there.
And I can't really see Glavine getting back into baseball more than the handful of appearances he makes in the Braves broadcasting booth. He seems pretty happy spending time with his family now.Comment

On a related but slightly different viewpoint.

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
Just read that we're expected to hold off on dealing Teheran and Maybin (at least until the offseason), but will probably move Jim Johnson, Kelly Johnson, and Pierzynski. We've gotten calls on Markakis, but he's not available (damn). Uribe will probably be available if and when they give up on moving Chris Johnson. There's a good chance CJ will be released before next year if they can't trade him

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
I really don't want us to trade Pierzynski. I think he means way too much to this squad whether it's a losing one or not. Betancourt isn't ready and Lavarnway can not possibly catch every day.

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
Why in sam hill is Markakis off the block?
EDIT: Reading an article on TalkingChop, they mention it would look bad for the front office to sign a guy to a multi-year deal then trade him the same year. I get that - makes FAs more opt to sign.
I'd be against trading Teheran also; I'd give him another year to prove whether he wants to be the ace. I think the end of this year and next year will show he's a better #2 guy (Shelby being #1 and taking that pressure off).Last edited by Speedy; 07-23-2015, 07:52 PM.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
I'm in favor of trading Teheran for the right deal, either now or in the offseason. I don't think he's bad at all, in fact I think he'll be damn good next year and beyond. But we have a surplus of starting pitching, a severe defecit of offense, and he'd get the best return, short of Miller.

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
I don't think any of our SPs - even Miller - should be untouchable, if the price is right.
We should have a surplus of SP. We're going to have to use some of it to upgrade the offense.
Edit: And I'd definitely move Markakis if I had the opportunity. Trading the Johnsons (all of them) makes sense, though good luck finding someone to take Chris.
I can't remember if I read it somewhere or if it was on a Braves broadcast, but Pierzynski apparently wants to return to Atlanta next year, even if he's traded at the deadline.Last edited by LowerWolf; 07-24-2015, 08:42 AM.Comment

I agree that even Miller should be available for the right price, but I just don't see getting the right price for him. A 24 year old with a 2.33 era is hard to beat. Yeah, I'd take Kris Bryant, but that's not going to happen.
I guess I get not trading Markakis. That does sound like something that may make free agents gun shy about signing longterm deals here. Still hate that contract.

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
I feel like we should've gotten more than their 18th best pitching prospect and a guy not even ranked. Uribe and Johnson were having good seasons.
