    Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves

On a normal, even decent team, Wisler and Folty aren't in the majors. They aren't going to be good, because they're not ready, and they're out there to take their lumps and learn from it. Wisler has a 4.76 career era in Triple A. Folty is at 4.52 (though 3.49 this season). Folty is hitting his rookie wall (he's 35 innings over what he did last year). Wisler had two games where he blew up, but besides those two games, he's got a 3.83 era, which isn't bad for a rookie at all. I've made my views on Peterson clear, I don't think he has everyday player talent.

As far as Simmons, he's significantly better in all the slash categories from last year. Moreso, his second half has been very good, including .387 obp. So far in August, he's .317/.400/.400. His ops this season is .001 less than his career average.

Agree that Wisler/Folty shouldn't be up...and that Peterson isn't an everyday player. All talent aside, this team SHOULD not be performing like this! Do you actually excuse their performance!? I swear, they are tanking on purpose...it looks like it anyway.

I read something the other day that I agree with...you can really damage your culture if you don't rebuild right. Young players can start to accept losing as the norm, something the Braves haven't done in 25 years. What is happening now is exactly that...they are just going through the motions and accepting their beatings. No one is upset, no one cares....it's just as if this is how it's supposed to be.

I don't necessarily buy into that all that much. When the Astros decided to tear it down and start over, they had 3 seasons were they were a laughing stock, a 70 win season, and now they're in 1st place. Talent wins out. These are professional athletes who want to win. I think it's human nature to become dejected when you're 20 games out of first. Do I hope they finish strong and carry a positive note into next year? Absolutely. But if they don't, I certainly don't think this team will be doomed to occupy the cellar for 5 years.

So I was joking earlier, but will we win another game? Holy cow...the other team has to have a bad day at some point, right?

Unreal...19 losses in 21 games. 12-41 since first week of July.

So I read an article today in which the writer was advocating that the Braves need to trade for Chris Sale in the offseason. The deal he put forth was this:

                    Braves send to White Sox:
                    - Matt Wisler
                    - Toki Toussaint
                    - Tyrell Jenkins
                    - Mallex Smith
                    - Teheran or Simmons

                    White Sox send to Braves:
                    - Chris Sale

He spends the article talking about how the Braves aren't any closer to winning a World Series and getting a guy like Sale would help us get there. We are SO far away as an organization from being able to compete for the playoffs on a regular basis that if we did this deal by the time we were competing Sale would be long gone.

                      Guy is moronic.

Sell every prospect we have for one guy...wait, we already did that before!

                      2007 Tex deal.

It didn't work then, it won't work again.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Soooo bad. That's 4 legit prospects and a 24 yr old all star. For a guy with a 3.29 era who's only pitched 200 innings once.

Maybe I'm just overly optimistic, but I don't think we're that far away from being a playoff contender.

Yes, we're terrible right now. But if we add the right pieces and some of the youngsters develop, I think we can be in the mix next year.

As negative as I've been the last few weeks I also believe this team is actually headed in the right direction. We are all spoiled by prospects coming up and starring right away, but the majority of the time, especially with pitching, it takes time. These guys are taking their lumps now, but in a year or two hopefully we reap the benefits. My main concern is the total lack of offense in the organization, but free agency and the draft can fix that.

It was nice to see Olivera bust out tonight...he does have the physical tools, just a matter of seeing him develop. Really wish he was 25 and not 30 though.

I think we're good at first, short, third. Really all the offense truly needs is a second baseman, a catcher, and probably an outfielder (you can't have Maybin, Markakis, and later on Smith be you of hitting 15 hr between them). Pitching, the young guys need to progress, Teheran needs to bounce back, and it's a top tier staff. Still a small sample size, but Vizcaíno looks like he's lights out and before his surgery, he was a top 40 prospect, so the talent is there. They really aren't that far away.

Bethancourt is such a disaster. He's somehow worse now than when he got sent down. .103/.133/.103 since coming back. Hasn't gotten on base in 14 pa's. He's a below average pitcher at the plate at this point.

Olivera 3 for 4 so far today. Looks good so far. Julio has only given up 1 run so far too. In fact he's been a lot better in the second half. 3.95 era since the beginning of July. You can take out one start, and it'd be 3.15. Promising
