I'd be surprised if Johnson isn't moved. It wouldn't surprise me if Vizcaino got an audition at closer after that.

Or Folty...they haven't made up their minds if he's a starter or reliever yet, so I could see them sticking him in the closer role for a bit. I'd prefer he develops as a starter since he'd be more valuable there.

I think it's a combination of him being advanced for triple A, but clearly not ready for the majors, and limiting his innings a bit; he's already matched what he threw last year and is only about 30 shy of a career high. You want to stretch him out, but not too quickly.

The impression I get is that the longterm plan is still for Folty to start. If that doesn't work out, I could see him as a closer though.

So we reach the break...really limped in and losing Grilli blows. Our offense has been ABYSMAL since Freddie went down, there is no sugar coating it. I am also really disappointed in Peterson right now...the league has adjusted and he has refused to adjust.

What do I hope to see in the 2nd half? In order to win 80 games we need to go 38-35, a very doable task IMO. I want to see see the young pitching continue to develop, and that includes Teheran and Wood. They have talent, but are just not progressing as you would hope they should. I don't know where we find offense, but maybe it will be enough having Freddie back.

I don't know ... 38 wins seems like a tall order to me considering Maybin and Uribe are likely to be gone in the next three weeks.

Disappointing that we had a four-run lead to go a game over .500, blew that and then lost four straight to a last-place team to limp into the break. But they've hung around longer than I thought they would. Maybe they have another surprise in them.

I didn't realize this, but 42-47 is the worst record for the Braves at the All-star break since 2006.

This interview with John Hart, really spelled out what the issue with Bethancourt is. He just doesn't prepare like a big leaguer should:

Q: Are you worried about Bethancourt?

A: I really like his skill set. I don’t think he has embraced what it is he needs to do to sell out to his pitching staff, to drive the train. We sent him to Gwinnett and I told (manager Brian Snitker) the boxes I wanted check: shows up early, prepares for game, goes over scouting report, works the pitcher.’ Go through those intangibles.

                        Q: You’re talking about dedication.

A: Not dedication. It’s a level of preparedness you need for what Roger (McDowell) expects and a championship organization expects, especially when dealing with young pitchers.

Q: So he doesn’t understand what it takes.

                        A: You put it well.

Q: Did the organization miscalculate his readiness?

A: We talked about it in the winter. We called him up last year and he had a good first month and a not-so-good last month. That sort of left a bad taste. It’s fixable. But at some point the player has to assume some responsibility.
Maybe this time in AAA will turn the light on for him. Not sure if AJ gets dealt or not, but if he does I guess CB will get another shot this season.

At this point I'm down for a tank job. Trade everybody on a 1 year deal, keep Freeman out until he's absolutely 100 percent probably in late August or early September, and keep Betancourt in AAA rest of season.

I never got the sense from watching Bethancourt that he was worthy of being on a major league roster.

I've always said I thought he'd end up as a backup. Offensively, he doesn't have it. And this isn't the first time I've heard concerns about maturity and readiness. But I think he will still end up as a major leaguer, if not necessarily a very good one; he has a lot of defensive talent.
