    Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves

By far the most fun braves team I've watched in a good bit of time. Didn't get a foul ball today, and I meant Daniel Murphy, not David. They're free at the plate and everyone looks relaxed and comfortable. We still have a long season ahead, but I hope this is the real deal. It's not entirely a stretch to say it could be how this year goes.

It felt like at the games everyone was really loud and into it because no one thought we'd have a win already. Best start since 94!

I agree, canes21...I utterly love this brand of baseball: put the ball in play and make the defense make a play on you. If the league average of BABIP is usually around .300, that means the more a player puts the ball in play, the more likely he is to see the average around .300 (a.k.a. law of averages). Maybe Hart was on to something with regard to the increasing amount of strikeouts (and the need to cut them down) and the deficiencies on defense by several clubs (the growing need to have more players put the ball in play). KC had the lowest strikeout total in the majors last year while also having the 4th-best average. Who knows as time will certainly tell.

I really hope Fredi just lets the guys run free; I'd love to see Simmons with 20+ SBs, EY Jr. with over 60, etc...I do believe in Sabermetrics but not to the extent that SBs hurt potential runs. Put pressure on the defense and force the issue by taking extra bases, stealing bases, etc.

Whatever the hell is going on, I'll take it.

Also, this is a very interesting read. http://braves.scout.com/story/153668...-on-the-braves

Really good read. We all knew of the terrible roster decisions Wren was responsible for, but to hear some of the inner workings of the organization is mind blowing. I kept hearing after he was fired how people within the organization were relieved, but this takes it to a new level. He wasn't just bad at talent evaluation, he was bad as a manager.

I went from disappointment towards Frank Wren to straight up anger. What a dick. If true, of course. But it seems that it is.

If the season turns out reasonable, he is probably done in baseball. If the team can be turned around in 1 offense and dumping all the terrible contracts he gave out, it goes to show just how terrible he is. I don't know who would want to have him anywhere in their organization.

That said, 5-1 start or not, it's still not likely this team is competing for a playoff spot.

They keep playing like this and I won't care nearly as much about missing the playoffs in what was supposed to be a year where we were one of the worst teams in baseball.

If they keep playing like this wouldn't the be in the playoffs? 5-1 best ERA in baseball. I'm not saying it will stay like this, but I just find the whole "if they keep playing like this and miss the playoffs" saying funny.

Pretty much this. I still think ~80 wins is the most realistic projection for this team, but seeing plays like Johnny Comes beat out a double play because he hustled will make this team easy to pull for.

Atlanta has the 3rd least strikeouts in the majors while also having the 7th best batting average (10th in OPS).

I know it's a small sample size a bit skewed but we're on pace for 1200 strikeouts, 169 less than LY (1369)...last time we were at/below 1200 was in 2010, Bobby Cox's last year.

I'm not saying that you are but I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the team; I know Walgreens has a lot of talent but if 2013 is any indication, the amount of talent they have doesn't always translate into wins.

What do you guys think the future of the Braves outfield is, two or three years out? Are they in the organization now, or do you think they'll have to improve it through free agency/trades.

Free agency. But I think it's one of the easier positions to fix in free agency.

I think it'll have to be free agency or trade. Maybe by the grace of God we can land a Trout or Stanton-esque player in a draft and he can be ready to roll almost immediately. Ha.
