Re: The Official 2007 "Running Commentary of Every Single Tourney Game" Thread

when Florida wanted to play this year, there was not a team that could beat them. Great game by Florida. Every time OSU made a run to close the gap, UF was able to choke the life out of OSU. Clutch plays for Florida every time they needed them. One of the best "teams" I have seen in college basketball in a while.

I really wish Oden and Conley stay at OSU one more year. But ". . . you can wish in one hand and crap in the other, and see which one fills up first" (10 points to whoever can give the movie of that quote )

Re: The Official 2007 "Running Commentary of Every Single Tourney Game" Thread

Congrats to the Gators. They were a very fun team to watch and as unselfish of an elite team as I can remember in recent years. It's too bad we'll probably have to wait another 15 years to see that happen again.

They are a perfect example of how the college game has suffered over the last decade and a half - you don't see teams with top-flight talent develop the top-flight chemistry anymore. No one sticks around long enough for that to happen besides this group.

They had too many weapons for Ohio State (and anyone else for that matter) and knew how to attack and breakdown their opponent. Plus they hit so many big shots and never let OSU get over that hump. As a team I don't think they took one bad shot all night.

Oden played by far his best game of the year (did he really only have four blocks? I thought he had at least six) regardless of the fact he was single covered most of the night. I thought he showed a fire and determination he hadn't displayed before. If anyone doubted how good he'll be at the next level, last night was a true preview of what he can do.

I was very surprised at how Conley played. That was the first game in the last two months were I wasn't incredibly impressed with him. His numbers were still good but didn't control the game as well as I thought he could have.

In the end it came down to the long range shooting. You aren't going to beat Florida if you shoot 4-23 and the Gators shoot over 50%.

In terms of recent history I think Florida is one of the best teams of the last 15 years but not the best. I'd still take '96 Kentucky, '01 Duke and '04 UConn over Florida. They never faced another juggernaut in the last two years (because there weren't any) but that's not their fault.

Again, congrats to the Gators - especially because it's now one less thing that Dookies can brag about! (Being the last team to repeat)

I say we force OSU to join the SEC. That would all but kill their athletics

Yet, we'd still destroy Alabama every year like every other SEC team.

OSU has never beaten Alabama in football and Alabama has won 3 of the last 4 against OSU in basketball

who picks almost every single higher ranking team? i dont know of any real bball fans who would pick like that. I;d honestly speculate this person knew nothing and picked his teams within seconds. Its sad that thats what sports are all about sometimes. I would never bet on them to save my life.

Funny how everyone compared the Thad Five to the Fab Five and both had identical endings to their freshman seasons: Losing to an experienced team that played great together and won their second straight national title.

Very Ironic. Not only that both were left for dead in earlier rounds too. Didn't Jim Jackson, Lawrence Funderburke, and Mark Baker have Michigan on the ropes in the Elite Eight, but failed to close the deal?

That was the OT game, I'm pretty sure OSU had already beat Michigan twice that year. Same thing in '93, if Masburn didn't foul out of the Nat'l Semifinal in OT I don't think there was anyway in hell that UM was beating UK. The Fab Five had quite a few close calls in their two tourney runs, then almost lost to 14-seed Pepperdine the following year in the first round. One of their biggest problems was that they expected other teams to lie down and die for them more than any team in history, IMO.

One of the bigger misconceptions of the Fab Five is that they were a great team in '92. They were 11-7 I believe in conference play and 20-9 overall going into the tourney. Also, I'm pretty sure Ray Jackson averaged less than 5 ppg his freshman year and didn't get into the starting lineup until February or so. They peaked at the right time though.

Not to mention that the Wolverines were also down 19 points to up-and-coming UCLA team in the second round of the NCAA tourney that year before coming back to win that game.
