It all boils down to "ITS ALL ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS!" and UNC fans laughed at K when he said that. Are u laughing now?

      Re: Who\'s @ fault for Doherty\'s firing?

Doherty got shafted and that's all I want to say about that. As far as who replaces him, Roy is my first choice (followed by Tubby Smith). The big question after finding the head coach is who will be the assistants? Are they going to stay in the Carolina family and bring back some of the one's that were let go? If Tubby comes our way, is he bringing a staff? I know we cannot answer these questions as all of the speculation of a new coach is still there. However by getting rid of Doherty you lose all of the assistants, who weren't Carolina Blue to begin with. This should be quite interesting.

Exactly. If Roy is truly their first choice, they should have had the courtesy to wait until after the Final Four to can Matt Doherty. Roy is a difficult person to read. I don't know what he is going to do. When he says that he is 100% focused on the games, and not thinking about whether or not to take the UNC job, I believe him. My hope is that when this season is over, he give it so thought, and quickly conclude that he is goinng to stay at Kansas for the same reason he stayed last time, his players. Think how much it would hurt his current underclassmen if he was willing to stay at Kansas to coach Collison, Gooden, and Hinrich, but not to coach them. He loves his current players, and he doesn't want to hurt them.

Not correct. They interviewed someone from a radio station in NC, and this is what he says. The same radio station reported a lot of lies 3 years ago. 810 emphatically said that this was not their story. I don't believe these rumors for a second. Just like I don't believe the Rumors that Roy has told the parents of one of next year's freshmen that he is staying at KU.

But I think he does want to return home. However, I seriuosly doubt that he has told anyone that would take the job. He's too smart of a coach to do that, he knows that would screw with the pschy of his team.

It was an incredibly difficult decision for Roy last time around. Eventually, time was running out and he had to decide. He stayed at Kansas and said it was because of his players. As much as Roy loves KU, and I think he loves UNC even more. If he could take all of his players with him, he'd be gone in a heartbeat. At this point, I think Kansas and North Carolina are about even in terms of the prestige of their program. Actually, I think the coach has so much to do with the prestige of the program that KU is a notch ahead of UNC right now. Roy wouldn't goto UNC because it has a better basketball tradition (let's not forget where Dean Smith came from, or where the inventor of the game coached), he would go there because it's home.

3 days ago - I think I would have agreed with you. But the fact he won't take his name out speaks volumes.

He already made his decision once. Has anything changed? Why go through it again? Just say no - I am staying at KU now, no matter what.

But he refuses to say that. So he has opened himself up to that possibility again. Why?

I think he has some regrets saying no the last time. I think after some time he realized -" that was my ultimate dream - and I said no." And I think he closed the book on it then. I don't think he thought UNC would open up again so soon. I think he thought next time around he would be out of coaching then, or no longer the best candidate.

But it opened again only 3 years later. The door he thought closed to him forever (as near as forever for him) is open again.

I know he loves his players. But there are players at UNC he could love just as much. There will always be players. He's taken KU to 2 straight Final 4s - so the cuboard is not bare for any potential succesor. The UNC program is in disarray, in part because he recommended Doh.

I think this time he says yes.

              IMHO.

Coach D is an *** hole coach and an in experienced coach. UNC should of never hired someone with that little experience. But I will be happy when Roy Williams comes back home.

I didn't say he was staying; just that I hoped he would. I don't know what to think right now. I have a hard time believing that he would like the UNC players as much as the ones he recruited. Rashad McCants sounds like a real prima donna in this interview. When asked if firing Matt Doherty was the best thing for the program, he responds by saying, "Definitely. We want to be able to play for a coach we have full confidence in and be able to make it to the Final Four every year we play. I think that Dick Baddour and Chancellor Moeser made a good decision."

I will give myself an out from the "Roy to UNC" prediction above.

It is possible he is using this as leverage to force out the AD (Roy reportedly hates him) at KU.

But - while I "hate" KU, I respect and admire Roy as a coach and person. I don't think he'd do that.

Unless Roy is a lot more Machiavellian than I (or almost anyone) believe. That would destroy a lot of the respect I have for him.

Yeah - I don't think he'd "love" the players at UNC he didn't recruit.

But I also think he'd remember that he didn't recruit most of the players at KU when he first went there and eventually was able to get the program to where he wanted it.

I also think he is dismayed at the mess Doh is leaving at UNC. Coming in as the savior to the program he has loved since a kid is a little extra motivation that wasn't there 3 years ago.
