Who's Final Four Run Was Better? George Mason's or VCU's?

Was wondering which team you guys think had the best run to the Final Four? Regardless of what happens from here on out, I'm picking VCU. VCU played an extra game, knocked off Purdue, G-Town, Kansas and possibly more.

GMU beat UNC, Connecticut, and Michigan State, as well as a highly ranked Wichita State team, before losing to the eventual National Champion Florida in the Final Four.

All things aside, both runs were outstanding.

Gotta go with VCU. All the crap they've gotten for even being in the tourney, then going on and winning 5 straight against the power conferences is just beautiful.
    Go Herd!(Even though your terrible)

Lets go V-C-U!!(And to make it clear, I have been a VCU hoops fan since 2007...no bandwagon for me, thank you very much!)

VCU. Most people didn't even pick them to win the play-in game against USC, and they went on to make it to the Final Four. Several people, including myself, picked George Mason to at least beat Michigan St in their run.

The only real argument is the quality of teams played. I would take the Michigan St team George Mason beat over Georgetown. This year's Purdue against the 06 UNC team is a toss up. Wichita St. of 06 was probably better than Florida St.

George Mason got similar crap in 2006.

Also GMU had to win their first two games of the tournament with their 2nd leading scorer suspended.

At this point, George Mason. If VCU goes farther, than I'd take VCU.

George Mason beat that stacked UConn team to make the Final Four; don't forget that. And it was an awesome game.

VCU because they were so heavily critiqued for even making the field. Not to mention they knocked off five power conference teams to make it to the FF.

                  Exactly.

Billy Packer and Jim Nantz literally **** all over Craig Littlepage that year during the Selection Show for the George Mason pick. It actually made Jay Bilas seem tame in comparison.

So my vote is George Mason because they did it first. However, both stories are great.

George Mason by far. VCU has a good story, but they had a much easier road. Kansas, realistically, was not a one seed in most years, but through the fact that everyone is down across the board they got one. I know people will argue with me on that, but KU really didn't beat anyone all year...the Big 12 was WAY down across the board, and their non-con schedule featured a bunch of games against mid tier teams of other conferences (UCLA, USC, Michigan). And they almost lost to all of them. I think KU was better last year. Crap, KU almost lost to Nebraska at Kansas, when NU played terrible and shot 36% from the field, 23% from the 3pt line, and had 14 turnovers...the same Nebraska team that got beat by Wichita St. by almost 30 in the NIT. That being said, I didn't expect KU to lose to VCU at all, they have been getting lucky all year in close games.

Uconn was a much better team that year than KU was this year. USC was not a good team, Georgetown had been playing terrible, Purdue lost one of their good players before the tourney, and Florida St. wasn't particularly awesome outside of their defense. That year that Mason won it Michigan St, NC, and Uconn were all pretty good.

VCU's run has been more impressive to me because everyone expected so little of them (though, for the record, I did have them picked to beat USC and Georgetown). However, I think that George Mason's win against UConn was the most impressive win overall.

I haven't been paying much attention - have the talking heads who so thoroughly lambasted the inclusion of VCU apologized and admitted they were wrong yet? I somehow don't think Colorado or Virginia Tech would be in the final four.

As a few others have said, that's not really relevant. The committee is supposed to pick the teams with the best resumes. It's not there job to predict the future and decide who can do the best in the tournament. They have specific criteria to look at, and based on that criteria, there was a strong argument that they shouldn't have made it.

VCU if for mo other reason than they had to win an extra game

if VCU or Butler is Cinderella,
does that maker UConn & Kentucky ugly stepsisters?lol

Yeah the one that got looks by NFL teams.

As for who's is better, I think they are pretty equal. Mason beat a who's who of basketball royalty on their way to the FF while VCU has knocked off all power 6 schools.

However Butler going to back2back FF's trumps both.
