I don't mean to complain, but if you think having 44 of 50 ACC tournaments in North Carolina does NOT create an advantage for the Tobacco Road teams, you're either biased or you don't know what you're talking about. I'm not saying that Maryland would win the tourney every year if it was in DC or Atlanta, but any time Maryland plays Duke, UNC, WF, or NCSU in the tournament in Greensboro or Charlotte, there is an UNDENIABLE homecourt advantage. The NC schools don't have to travel as far, and they have more fans on their side. It doesn't make sense that a state which represents 44% of the conference (now 33%) gets to hold 88% of the conference tournaments.

And Gary took a program facing possibly the worst sanctions in NCAA basketball history, turned it into a top 15 program in less than 5 years, and a national champion in 13. I think he deserves some respect.

as a coach yes but watch. when he resorts back to that fun and gun style offense its going to be heartbreak city all over again. heck if he cant get past the sweet 16 with joe smith and company running that system what makes u think he can with the players he has now? he should stay to the half court and a NCAA Championship coach would recognize that but dont tell Gary that up in Alaska aka College Park.

That is not the case against UNC. When UNC is in the tourney, all of the other schools root for their opponent. It's like the ABCers are having a convention. I know because back in '95 I had tickets in the Wake section. They were almost as loud for MD in the semi's as they were for Wake. On Sunday, I know it was a 70-30 anti-Heels crowd.

            I held my own though.

Listen, I know you want to slag on Gary, and that's fine, all Dookies do, but if you had such a young team (a total of 10 varsity letters between them and it's not like any of them but Caner-Medley, Smith and Gilchrist were in the rotation last year) but possibly the best team you've had athletically, you'd try it to. Do you really expect a team with one senior (a JUCO guy) and 4 new starters to be a disciplined, conservative team? No, they'll be mistake-prone and turnover-prone and they won't be defensive monsters. They're hardly a top 25 team this year. Might as well make them fun to watch and see if they can spark. They'll live and die on emotion this year.

john gilchrist ran the offense pretty good in a half court set from what i seen of him last yr. why not let him instead of turning it into a track meet where u can actually make even more turnovers? well as long as u dont have jackie manuel trying to hit layups (cuz we all know he cant ) i guess gary can live with that. im just glad i dont have to watch thaj holden flop all over the place when a 5'10" guard like Ed Scott drives to the hoop.
