Huge win for IU...Two key late plays by Cody who was largely a non-factor sealed the deal....Victor looked like a man possessed today

Ehh... great game even though we lost. Probably our most complete game, and that was with Appling out for 2/3 of the game. I wish we were deeper, because Valentine has no business being out there against a team that quick. You could tell that we were totally gassed. Still I like our chances when IU comes to the Bres in a few weeks.

Clearly we will be there with a chance to win the B1G at the end of the year.

My goodness, Cal's offense is terrible. 18 points in the first half, shooting 20% from the field. That was with Roberson only playing 2 minutes with foul trouble. They're pretty good at forcing turnovers though.

Great win over Iowa. With how these two teams have been playing you'd think Iowa is the better team, but Purdue was able to beat them at home.

Now Michigan has a really tough game. A win at home could push Illinois back into the top 25, and if they get hot beyond the arc they could get it (that being said I bet Michigan wins).

                NHL: Detroit Red Wings (26-20-12)
NCAA: Purdue Boilermakers (FB: 1-11, BB: 15-12), Michigan Wolverines (FB: 7-6, BB: 19-7, H: 15-10-3)

Michigan is just making this look easy in the 2nd half.

Their downfall could be their defense. They are only 45th in the country in defensive efficiency. No team has made the final 4 in the last 12 years that has been worst than 25th in defensive efficiency...will be interesting to see if they can be the first.

They do give up way too many offensive rebounds. I'm not sure what goes into defensive efficiency, is that one of the factors?

Well, yes, in an indirect way. Defensive efficiency measures points/possession. It was realized that just looking at PPG and PPG/allowed are not good ways to measure teams because one team my play up tempo and have more opportunities than another. They began measuring points/possession on offense/defense and it has been a much better barometer. If you are giving up offensive rebounds, you are going to give up more points/possession since you are allowing the team a 2nd chance at the same possession.

Kempom converts this to points/100 possessions and points allowed/100 possessions. Michigan is #1 in offense (125 points/100 possessions) while only 44th in defense (91 points/100 possessions). Florida, who is who they have ranked #1 overall, is #1 in defense and #2 in offense (124 and 81) to give you an idea of the difference between #1 and #44 on defense (around 10 points).

I think that's more due to scoring a ton than actual bad defense. Michigan has been able to turn on the defense at times this year when necessary. If Michigan is having a bad offensive day, they usually turn on the defense and make their opponent have a bad offensive day as well.

Could be...but at the same time the numbers are the numbers. Check out this article:

My numbers earlier were off...it's 5 teams worse than 45th, not 25th that have made the FF in the last 12 years.
